I was going to hijack someone else's thread and then just figured "why not just make my own?"

My friend and I are wanting to get into infinity with only experience from 40k and Warmachine. We do all of the things involved, dive into the fluff, invest hardcore in making our models look pretty and seriously duking it out and getting pumped when we finally make it to the tabletop. For that reason, we like to pick one army (no matter which game we're playing) and really focus on it, so we get to be very knowledgable of the background of that army, good at painting it and able generals of our army when it comes time to fight. With that in mind, we'd like some advice on which armies to pick.

Me: I've played pretty much every army in 40k, I currently run Daemons. I like my models to have a disjointed look. I don't necessarily like smooth armor plates and weapons. They don't have to be particularly organic either. In fluff, I don't really care what side of the conflict I'm on as long as I can make a character or team or army with an ultimate goal in mind. A chaos champion earning his princehood, a pirate crew searching for lost artifacts or booty or a Space Marine chapter avenging some sleight by the forces of evil. On the tabletop, I like the force to be dynamic, mobile, moving quickly, whether it be a swooping bloodthirster or a pack of savage seekers of Slaanesh. I don't necessarily have to get to grips with my enemy but being able to outmaneuver them plays a big part in my strategies. I've considering playing ALEPH because of how closely human they are while still being very indescribably and eerily inhuman and robotic, I've also thought about Corrigedor also because they're mostly human looking with some strange animal tendencies and finally Shasvastii Combined army. Because they're just weird and alien.

My friend: in fluff, he likes his armies to be the righteous underdog. The good guys succeeding against all odds. He's very patriotic that way. He started out playing Imperial Guard but sending platoon after platoon into the meat grinder wasn't his thing, so he moved to Tau where everyone and everything is valuable and they are the youngest and nicest race and continually win and conquer and expand despite all the larger factions trying to stamp them out or enslave them. Models he doesn't really have a preference but he likes to have a mix, with distinct separation, of tech'd up units and primitive stuff. He loved having a unit of firewarriors in full battle armor and equipped with pulse rifles backed up by a unit of Kroot wearing nothing but their skins and wielding knives and slug guns. On the tabletop, he likes mass destruction. Having weapons or maybe just one, that can cut swathes of death and ruin through the battlefield. He doesn't particularly care about hiding or how durable things are or getting into close combat or being able to maneuver. He just wants to blow gak up. Some men just want to watch the world burn. He first wanted to play Nomads but I thought maybe Ariadna with their "modern" (2013) tech and mix of old school and new school units and die hard scrapper, up and comer attitude would fit him better.

Of course first of all welcome to the game! I hope you´ll enjoy it and have a great time. I think you´ll see that you are able to field almost every model you like so just go for the fluff and the models you like. I personaly hate Aleph but this is my personal behaviour. Playwise they will be a godd choice, a lot of tech stuff and nice little goodies. Shas will play different using a lot of Camo and more weird rules. I think they are more for experienced players because they´ll need different tactics. In the ICS they suffer a lot from restrictions in the different szenarios. Ariadna is a low tech fraction but they will be able to use a lot of models and these nice werewolves and Scott hybrids. Get some starters and try your first game, I hope you´ll love it...

Greetings

All factions can play on mobility card. Some just easier than others.

Ariadna is basically "get off my lawn" faction. The people are of little concern to the rest of the Human Sphere, however the planet Dawn they have settled has abundance of very rare and rich ore. Lately they've started to be more active on the political scene.
* Side note. Show your friend Tank Hunter with Autocannon, to him it might be a selling model.

Haqqislam might be another example. The people separated from radical and conservative Islam on Earth and focused on more positive aspects. They have their darker side, since the planet they've settled has valuable substance called Silk. With it many marvellous medical things can be done, yet it also servers as a nice bargaining chip on the political and economical theatre.

Bakunin (Nomads) might also appeal to him. Very chaotic and prone to violance in the background, not so much as the underdog. More of an illegal space fearing black market.
