I was thinking about it, and it just came up that the sheer simplicity of the rule set made the game that more tactical. You have the same complexity in strategy one encounters in large-scale campaigns, especially in the fact that the order system makes a good substitute for logistics, and you wil most likely have a kind of 'backland' from where to draw your resources from. What are your thoughts on this?

I just thought I'd share this 'cos dakka needs more infinity threads!

What do you exactly mean? That you can use the Infinity orders system for a game larger in scope?

No, the resemblance just stood out to me. You could use it for a larger game, but I'm not interested in that and not gonna burn my fingers on the discussion that will ignite when someone talks about it.

I think a general rule for Infinity, or really most skirmish-style rule sets, is that they don't scale up too well. Not in that the rules don't work well (of course they can) but just in terms of the time and concentration it takes to play a game. Tracking all of those individual components over a mass of miniatures is difficult. Would love to try a 5-600pt Infinity game at some point, but my memories of similar attempts with Necromunda forces years ago makes me less inclined to try.

But, regarding your point, I don't think 'scale' of a game directly relates to how tactical it is. I used to play a lot of Epic (which I think is probably GW's most tactical game, and the least like a 'button basher') - games like Infinity are as tactical I think, despite the vastly bigger miniature scale.

I know, I know, and I'm not trying to imply you should scale Infinity up, but I just recognized the overlap and shared it because there are almost no Infinity discussions, and a bad subject is better than no subject. The 'what are your thoughts about this' part was just asking if someone saw the resemblance too, or would have a better metaphor for it.

Yes I understand, I'm not critical at all about the concept!

I think a lot of the bad blood, when idea was first mentioned on the Infinity forums, was because of the circumstances surrounding the 'rumour' of Corvus Belli up-scaling the game in terms of points - and the originator of those rumours.

But in general terms I would love some kind of 10 or 15mm game, with lots of troop transports/tanks (and squadrons of TAGs), showing the planetary-invasion style scale of battle in the Infinity universe (to go alongside the special-ops team scale we have with the game currently at 28mm).

Corvus Belli have a good history of smaller-scale historicals, so who knows - perhaps it is a possibility?

...I would be severely disappointed if 'squadrons of tags' would be implemented at smaller than 28mm scale. Feth price, I wouldn't mind buying 6-10 of just tags (God knows I'm getting there already ) at their current quality/level of detail.

I did not hear, about it, but like it. Maybe it could even be used as a campaing system for regular Infinity
