My big challenge lately, aside from painting my Tau, is coming up with a scary Space Marine list that isn't bikes. I can't seem to make peace with a drop pod list, so I came up with this.

I usually write for 1500 or 1850, but I couldn't really do this short of 2000.

Iron Hands:

Chaplain (with an Assault Cent squad) 90

Tactical Squad 210
Plasma Gun
Lascannon
Rhino

I like Mech lists, but playing with AV has not been good to me in this edition, so I'm wary of buying models for an army like this, to say the least. What does Dakka think?

- I'm meh on the HQ choice. What are some better alternatives?

- I feel like this list packs enough firepower to put serious pressure on most opponents, but the model count is hella low.

- It has no AA.

- How could this be scaled down to 1850 and 1500 games? 6 small scoring units seems risky at 2000 points.

- I'm also meh on the Assault Centurions, but they seemed like the best way to get both Land Raiders and Vindicators on the table. Also, it's impossible for any of them to die if their ride Explodes. Better options?

- Most importantly: Is this competitive? My Tau would have a hard time stopping that iron wall before it got to my line, but I don't play super-competitively.

I'm trying to run a 1500 pt mech list and I think you have to run two raiders to make it work , which seriously cuts out on your points at 1500. I played a game Friday and I realized a wraith knight has close to 50% chance to blow up a raider on turn one . It's really difficult to run but I like your take and I think that is the way to go. Motf is better than a chap I think, better save and he can repair on a 4+ if something breaks. Maybe a better option is to run one assault cent, change the chap to a master and run honor guard with axes? Good luck!

Titan, I think what makes the LRs hurt so much is that in order for them to be worthwhile, you have to put something IN them, and things that go in Land Raiders are typically expensive.

Unless...

Black Templars:

Master of the Forge 95
Auspex

Crusader Squad 170
Plasma Gun, Heavy Bolter
Razorback w/ TLLC

Huh. Black Templars make for awesome Mech Space Marine lists. I actually -love- the above lists. It's so symmetrical, so spearhead-shaped. So strangely lacking in close combat upgrades.

Thoughts?

If you're running 3 vindicators I would be tempted to go Blood Angels with SM allies. The vindicators would all be fast and can run with the landraiders then.
