Subject: "easy" way of doing hazard stripes

Hello dakka,
I have recently started my Iron Warriors Chaos Space Marine army and in need of some advice for doing hazard stripes. Most of the examples and guides I have seen so far employs the use of much free-hand, a technique which I regret to admit I have absolutely no skill at. Its bad enough doing it on a flat, square surface, for my Iron Warriors, I need to make it happen on their armor which are often times cylindrical or smoothly curved.
So does anyone have any idea on doing hazard stripes "easy" way without using so much freehand?
Thanks!
Zaki

Paint it all yellow.
Mask off your stripes with masking tape.
Paint black where the tape isn't.
Just remember that its a lot easier to paint black over yellow than the other way around.

The only thing that worked for me, on a flat surface, was using extremely thin masking tape. But on curved surfaces, that might get tricky. Worth a try though - cut masking tape into tiny ribbons and give it a shot?

Try getting the blue "painter's tape". You can pick it up at most home improvement stores. It's designed to mask off areas for house painting, and doesn't leave any residue behind when you peel it off.
Prime black, mask with blue tape, Cover with yellow or whatever, peel off tape, profit.

Airbrush or yellow spray, mask of the lines with painter tape, make sure it's primed black, then spray yellow over it, making sure only to cover the area you want striped.

Masking, though for things like shoulder pads, regular tape may not conform well enough. Special model masking tape is more flexible than paper backed painters tape. The painters tape will work, but you have to futz with it a goid bit to avoid the edges from folding.
Frisket film is even more flexible, and that is what I normally use since I keep it handy.
For most of this sort of thing though, I like decals. You can get hazard marking decals which are almost any size you can think of and with a good decal solvent, they will lay flat over all but the most complex compound curves. For the time it takes to mask off an area for painting, I can apply decals to several figures.

Masking and use of airbrush made them a breeze for my Iron Warriors, with nice crisp lines.
