So I just finished watching the Last Samurai with Tom Cruise great movie for any who havent seen it great movie let me tell you. So the last battle scene was super cool the traditional samurai charging into the modern army. But anyways I think a feudal samurai wargame would be super cool does anyone have a recommendations on what game i should throw my money at

The newest one I am aware of is Ronin by Osprey books.

However, I have never played so can tell you little more about it. It is pretty small scale, as in only a few figures per side.

Ronin is good if you want skirmish-level games on the size of Malifaux or Necromunda.

If you want bigger battles, you can use generic rulesets like Warhammer Ancients Battles, Clash of Empires, Hail Caesar, or War & Conquest.

For more specific rulesets, you can look at Killer Katanas II, Battles in the Age of War or Taiko!.

I'm making an Samurai Army for Kings of War atm.

There are plenty of rules that others have mentioned above as well as stuff such as Kensei if you want a Samurai Skirmish game with a little more fantasy.

This may be of interest to you.

They are 1/72 scale, similar to 20mm. A lot of people are looking for 28mm but there is something to be said for a complete set in a box with two alternative rule systems included.

You can also add on extra packs of figures separately.

I am a sucker for games that use tiles for the board.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Use wargames factory samurai, they are perfect and they mesh well with Ronin figures if you wanted to expand that game set..

Or you can do Kensei which has options for more of a straight historical approach or you can include Japanese mythological monsters to do a fantasy setting.

They are very nice models despite the smaller scale. I have a few of that range.

WGF or Old Glory are probably the cheapest ways to make a large army.

Really, any Ancients game could handle Samurai warfare.

Pretty much any medieval or ancient rule set could be adapted, i know many have made modifications to Hail Caesar and Black Powder, pretty easy to find. On the Warlord forums Rick Priestly has done some work and even posted up a samurai battle report.

I would also suggest that you consider 6mm, for any large scale warfare it looks fantastic and they are much easier to paint and quicker to do then a lot of other scales. Just the idea of hundreds to thousands of models on a table makes it much better in my mind.

Check out baccus for samurai stuff, the models are the best i have got in 6mm

However for skirmish i would suggest Ronin, had some good games with these rules, they even include extra rules for rifles, bayonets and revolvers so you can even do last of the samurai themed stuff.

15mm scale is a good compromise between number of figures/cost and detail, if you want to make larger armies that don't cost too much. (or 1/72 scale, which is about 20mm.)

I like 6mm too, however most people coming from the 28mm perspective tend to find them very small.

Well what comes to my mind is acctualy Kings of War, seeing how the human faction there is so extremly varied and could very easily have some easter Samurais in it.

It depends on how different samurai warfare may have been to European or other warfare, and depending on the period concerned.

I know you're looking to do battle-scale but just so you know the aforementioned "Ronin" rules features rules for the "Boshin War" allowing you to fight "The Last Samurai". So you can have 19th century Imperial Japanese riflemen versus traditionalist samurai.

Mura Miniatures sells 6mm Japanese buildings, and has reviews of some of the Wargames Factory Rising Sun line. He also has tutorials on making 28mm Japanese houses. Old Glory Miniatures are a good deal for bulk samurai and ashigaru, but they are 25mm, so too small if you're doing 28mm.

And for color ...
