Okay so this is an idea, starting a Space Marine list with 3 Storm Talons and 3 Storm Ravens. Have the Storm talons escort the storm ravens, so that when the SR comes into play, one of the ST come into play automatically. The rest of my list looks like a Chapter Master Usual ( bike, art.armour, E.Shield, blah blah ), maybe a unit of honour guard. Space Marines on bikes that count as troops. Was thinking of using White Scars to start this list, but also thinking Raven Guard too, for the scouting, or even Imperial Fists supplement to take Centurions as elites...

I want the list to look good, be competitive somewhat, but would having 6 flyers in a list be deemed not friendly? Still unsure of the theme I want to go in, but having bikes and flyers sounds cool. Also is this a bad idea tactics and strategy list? Am I painting myself into a corner vs some builds? Is it not a take all comers list? I see this list giving flying circus builds and tyranids a run for their money. Let me know if I should scale back on the flyers and why- I just like taking things in multiples of 3.

Off the top of my head..

Chapter Master on bike, artificer armour, powerfist, shield eternal
Khan ( maybe )

Space marine bike squad with 2 grav guns ( at least 5 bikers to make it a troops choice )
Space marine bike squad with 2 grav guns

Storm Talon with missiles ( not the typhoon version- forget what the other one is called atm )
Storm Talon with missiles
Storm Talon with missiles

Storm Raven with multi melta
Storm Raven with multi melta
Storm Raven with multi melta

In a 2000 point list or less, I may try to squeeze in an elite unit. In more points I'd love to use the centurion dev unit.

If you take a large number of any unusual unit, some people are going to call it unfair no matter how effective it is.

I'm a little unclear on what your Storm Ravens are meant to do if all your troops are on bikes. Are you just planning to use them as gunships?

It is a specialized build and it is going to play a lot stronger against some armies than others. If you play against the same group of opponents repeatedly, they will start tailoring their lists against you.

Is this an army totally starting from scratch? Have you got any of the models already? Have you played a flier-heavy force before? Because it seems like a hell of an investment for a force which might be no fun for you. I'd recommend starting with a more balanced list and maybe adding more fliers as you get a feel for how they play.

You should scale back on the fliers. two STs and two SRs. Six is simply too many unless you can maneuver them very well.

Only two troop choices you are going to get trooped in many 2000 pt games. I think you need at least 4 troops for 2000 pt. All those flyers are nice, however with tau and EWO, they will probably take down at least a flyer per turn, so then you just have your troops. And if you are going to scout your two troop choices, the first turn they are taking all the shooting, if kills them all, then auto lose prior to any flyers coming in. If hiding in the back, then don't need scout. Good luck and cheers

Don't go raven guard because bulky models don't get their abilities. And guess what bikes are?

Hm.. Yes I think i'll only take 2 storm talons and 2 storm ravens. maybe put a squad of centurion devs in one of the SR, and maybe an assault dedicated unit in the other SR.

I was also thinking of taking Inquisitors as allies, to take death cult assasins and crusaders. Is it possible to put them in the storm raven before the game? Otherwise the storm ravens are going to be gunboats unless I figure out more units.

I'll try to squeeze in more biker units, it's just a matter of how I want to spend my $$. I could buy several dark angel battleforce boxes to make the bikers...

I guess I realize now that I make a lot of my list building decisions based on how cheap and easy it is to make it. Buying and building all those flyers makes it easier to fill out points, is more fun to build, and I hate taking troops. So bland to me, unless you can take something like elites as troops. Centurions would be so awesome to do that with, lol!

Bridgwater, somerset

Id say the majority of 2000 point armies out there are going to wipe out your two units during turn 1.
white scars could help to scout and get the boosted jink but you're still going to be shot at by a whole crapton of firepower

Yeah you kind of want to push out your only scoring units to dish out some death, which leaves them open for a counter punch. If you don't, it kind of defeats the purpose of them, at least the style of play I use.

Hell, Captain Obvious here, but if you want flyers that are just gunships then go with a couple of Vendettas instead of some of those SM ones

With the new inquisition supplement, that is a very definite possibility!
