to be honest the main job of the Wraiths in this list (and the three wraith wing that there are a lots of at 1850) is to create carnage in mid table and kill some stuff. I see the Riptide being better at the second part, but maybe not as good as the first, which is why I haven't dropped one more wraith unit to have another Warrior/Scythe unit and a few more Kroot to improve my chances of scoring.
Interested in other people's thoughts though...

Some constructive criticism would be ace if anyone can be arsed. I know the Necron bit fairly well, but I'm trying to figure if I've got the Tau load outs right. And get some thoughts on whether I need to push for a few more Kroot...?

I believe this is a repost of an earlier list am I wrong?
I'll say it again then, you are wasting an ungodly amount of points on a buffmander to buff a single riptide. Either cheapen him up and only take MSS+CCN or lose the concept altogether.

What Shrike said. The Riptide can already tank for the commander, so no point giving him atl the tanky buffs.

As above but I'd go as far to say drop the buffmander all together and the Kroot. Load up on Broadsides instead. Why pay an HQ & Troop tax when you don't have to and gain Tank Hunters and PE(Marines) to boot!

Revised:
Dlord (all the trimmings)
5 x warriors (scythe)
5 x warriors (scythe)
5 x warriors (scythe)
6 x wraiths (3 coils)
6 x wraiths (2 coils)

Doom scythe
Tau:
Commander
CCN
MSS
Riptide
EWO

1850 on the button
(Was the last comment about the Kroot a joke? This is a tournament list. I need it to satisfy the rules for allies - 1 HQ, 1-2 troops etc)

Don't take allies just take the allied formation. Then you don't have to take a HQ or troops just a Riptide and 6 Broadsides but to balance the fact that you don't have to take an HQ or Troops choice the whole lot gains Tank Hunters and PE(Marines) for free.

Leave the whip coils at home, since the weapons that hurt most in cc are initiative 1 (power fists, etc.) anyway.

No reason not to allow it, if they're allowing Screamerstar, Cronair, Farsun Bomb, O'Vesastar, Quad-drake etc. It is just as legal as that and probably not much dumber than any of those builds...

Well. It's saying the foc doesn't matter anymore. Cron air is just taking lots if transports. That's always been one way of playing. Automatically Appended Next Post: Tournament isn't allowing it.
I like whip coils. If they allow you to slow four models or so down till after you've killed a bunch then it really improves your survivability and damage output. More noticeable if you go up against close combat opponents.

What's the role of the Riptide? If you're Buff Commandering it, Ion Cannon/SMS is the way to go.

Yes. I forgot to type in Ion. It absolutely is ion loaded. Depends on the mission and the enemy list. One of the good things about all that firepower is how many different ways it can be applied, I think.
Killing scoring units.
Clearing objectives for small units to drop onto.
Supporting the wraiths movement through midfield (softening units for a charge).
Creating a massive perceived problem and dragging enemy units about, in order to create space to score.
Versatile long range shooting (especially units in corners - flyers can get a bit bound up dealing with that). This is a thing the Necron army lacks.
