I have read the novel 'The Death of Antagonis' and have read that Sr. Volos of the Black Dragons second company is a 3m giant. Can someone tell me why that is?

Could have something to do with the difference in growth plates; bones of the forearm don't stop growing, you end up with those giant claw/blade things.

If growth plates in general took a bit longer to close, well, the accelerated growth of a marine might result in the occasional tall mofo.

Special Snowflake Syndrome.

Everyone wants their marines to be special and there is always a steady progression in things like speed of reflexes, weapon abilities, height, etc to make the marines "stand out" from the rest of the marines in published fiction.

aha, I have done some research but even though there is no info on the topic I can guess that it has to do with the genetic change in their ossmulda (or whatever the bone growth thing is called)

Because even the recruits that become Sm are different, some will be taller than others, and when given the enhancements the Sm are then you would end up growing bigger than your normal Marine

it above organ increases bone growth in the space marine, while it slows down after they get their large shape and interlocking rib cage it doesn't actually stop. as a space marine gets older he is suppose to get taller.

Black dragon apothacaries modify the said organ to help it produce the forearm claws. them messing around with it has probably caused some SM to shoot up in height pretty dam fast.
