Subject: First Eldar model - advice?

Hi everyone, just whipped up my first Eldar model. It was an experiment, an as I have little Eldar experience, I'd appreciate some feedback! I am still undecided on my basing, so apologies for the barren and unsightly base. I will likely be gloss coating the spirit stones.
I'm looking to improve before I tackle the remaining 40+ infantry. I'm thinking of going predominantly blue with yellow accents and some white - and natural tones for 'leather' or fabric type materials. Does it work? Cheers!

Looking pretty good and I like the colour scheme!
Just a few things I would do based on personal preference. I would maybe go with a different colour for the sword I like a metallic look but if you don't want a metallic that's fine too.
Also the yellow for the jewels is a good colour but they don't seem to have that jewel shine that you probably want but might just be the pictures and yellow jewels are tough. You can look up some tutorials on how to paint jewels but not sure about yellow since it's harder to have different shades of it, maybe try orange stones?
Overall I like it and I really like the staff it has a earthy stone feel to it which I like. Keep it up!

My personal advice would be to paint the head a contrasting color or use a colour that is close to the main color.
Also for the sword and staff I suggest using a color that exudes power like turquoise blue or purple.

Thanks for the ideas - I might just try something wih the sword. I had thought about chrome paint, but we'll see.

I think the turquoise color for the sword would look cool I don't think I mentioned that before but the other poster did.
Just get 3 colours of bright paints and try out some wet blending that's always a good think to use for swords!

I wanted to avoid colour clashing - using blue and yellow, i'd prefer to avoid a third colour that doesn't flow with those. Metallic would probably do it... Maybe I will try turquoise as a wash over white, then dry-brush a metallic over top for the glitter. I suppose this means a trip to the hobby shop!

Well if you want to avoid colour clashing then that's your call I think a silver metallic would look good if that's what you want to do.
If you want a coloured sword but still blue try a dark blue ink over the blade of the sword then a kador blue and wet blend that into the blue ink and then a teclis blue wet blended at the tip of the sword that would give you a blue sword that would match with the model

It's looking very promising, but there is only one thing I'd like to humbly point out - and your model is at odds with itself regarding it - Highlights. I'll start off by saying that regarding the blue robe, your highighting is spot on. It provides some good contrast with the shading in the deeper folds and, IMHO, adds a degree of interest to what could otherwise be a rather dull part of the model. Additionally, the staff appears to have a good amount of highlighting, again bringing out the details. However, for me, this is where it ends. While I can't possibly fault your paintjob in terms of neatness and co-ordination, I find the rest of the model to be rather... flat. The metallics on the sword, the white helm and the chest detailing, IMO, could all do with an extra degree of highlighting to really bring out the details. I hope I don't sound too harsh, as otherwise, as I have said, it's looking great, but an extra highlight (especially building up the white) would go a long way. Nevertheless, keep up the good work!

I think you're right - flat was what I saw as well, especially (as you said) in the helmet and sword areas. I might clearcoat the stones tonight as well, to see if that solves the flatness issue with them - and I will do something to the sword, I just can't make up my mind.
Thanks for the constructive comments, I appreciate them!

Hey, apparently the gallery dislikes my mobile picture uploading. Will fix that tonight.
Thanks for the link! That looks really helpful and quite interesting. Going to try that today.
