So this is my Homebrew Ultramarine successors chapter list. My sole enemy will be tyranids - I really only have one mate I game with.

I'd like to bump it to a 1000 in total.

This is a pretty rough list, I found the massive amount of options on some units a bit overwhelming, and just wanted to get some stuff written down, so any suggestions would be massively helpful.

Also: With the honour guard, the equipment says they have power weapons. Does this mean I am free to give them both power swords and powers axes? And can they take power fists? (also open to any advice with regards to assembling these guys).

Hey. I play UM myself. I would recommend some more plasma, I dunno about you but it's nice to have some ap2 rapid fire when the big bugs get close.
Regarding the power weapons, you can take a powersword, powermaul, poweraxe, or powerlance for the price of a power weapon. A powerfist is more points. If your opponent uses MC I would really recommend the shield eternal to counter smash.

Would plasma serve me better against Tyranids? I'm not playing against loads of MC's.
I have bits to take a makeshift devastator squad (basically 10 marines, and the bits to assemble them with a plasma cannon, lascannon, and some others) so I might shove that in, which would be on its way to bumping up to 1500. I might also be able to snatch up some sternguard from some guy, so that might go well.

Alright. I'm just trying to assemble some honour guard, and I don't have a massive amount of power weapons, so I'm trying to use all the ones I have from various kits. If I do end up getting sternguard, I'll be able to bling them up from that kit.

give the chapter master a, theeth of terra thunder hammer or even better what i personaly run a burningblade it will kill anything, Id give the honour guard axes and lances for power waepons, against tryranids i d take an aegis line with no guns, gives your cover and slows them down plus you ll strike first in combat, handy, change the scouts for sniper scouts great against MCs. The Tacs are perfect

Looking better, but;

1) Drop all the vet sgt upgrades. Pretty much useless waste of points IMO. You'd be better off using those points to give the sgt's Combi-weapons to match the squad they are with.

2) Put the Dev squad's Plasma Cannon with one of the Tac squads and the tac squads ML with the devs .. make them more consistent (Las, Plas, ML in a single Dev squad is looking to be a jack of all trades and certainly master of none).

3) Not big on Plasma Gun + ML combo in the tacs. I'd prefer to see PG/PC and leave the ML's for your dev squad to use.

4) Assault squad's are sub-optimal. You could better use those points for something else. A Thunderfire Cannon perhaps

5) Your marines need transports! Rhinos would be a good addition (using the extra points from dropping the assault squad maybe).

6) Drop the storm bolter on the Chapter Master. If you want to give him something special and shooty, give him a combi instead.

1. Dropped
2+3. I've placed all the ML's in the devastator squad, and put the PC and LC in the tacs.
4. I've got them, so I'd like to use them. I think they are kinda useful: I'll be fighting nids, so while I have a long line firing at everyone, the Assault squad can sneak in behind and take out his objectives.
5. I'll look at adding them - its just a matter of finding them at a decent price. This list is of the models I have, which is why I have a limitation in certain areas, such as heavy weapons. But I don't plan on rushing him, just selecting nice positions to rain the emperors fury upon the aliens
6. Its only 5 points, so I thought I'd give him it, I don't really want him to have a combi, because he wont be shooting any of the big bugs.

Points is a rough limit - My mate can work his list to be 1000 or 1500 or more, so if I tell him a limit then he'll work towards it.
