Ever heard of a Sorority for a University or College? Change the "Tee" sound to a "Tass" sound.

Think of something clever to say.

This. I don't see how anyone can pronounce it any of the other ways the OP proposed unless they were seriously challenged.

sɒrɒrɪtæs - the 's' as in 'sigh', the 'or' as in 'for', the 'or' as in 'for', the 't' as in 'hit' then the 'as' as in 'mass'.

ソロリタス (bearing in mind the habit of chopping off the vowel on the last syllable).

Literally the same as a Sorority, with the last syllable changed.

However you think it should be pronounced.

Differences in accent are going to affect how you say anything.

There's no singular right way to say a word, because accents come into play. Take bath, for example. Some accents pronounce it with an extended "a" phoneme, some with a more brief "a".

So[i]ro[i]ritas
Soro[i]ri[i]tas

Same word, just pronounced differently. There is no right or wrong way.

Are you sure? I went from soror which is latin for sister and from that its medieval modification sorōritās.

It's pseudo latin.

If you translate it, it doesn't make that much sense. Adepta, for example, means "Obtained." Which in context, doesn't make that much sense.

It's really not Latin but is "High Gothic". I think this has been discussed in a previous thread.

Adepta is an attempt to put a feminine sounding ending on Adeptus - which I believe is gender neutral (happy to be corrected).

Soror means sister, Sororitas doesn't mean anything in Latin.

Well, I guess when its derived from latin, pronounciation should/ could be same (definetly not english IMO, but whatever)

The English word it's based on is "sorority"... so use that as your starting point and change as needed.

1.) The word is "High Gothic" which is an in-universe language similar to Latin.
2.) Sororitas is not a Latin word, the correct word would be "sororities". But it is certainly derived from the Latin word soror for sister.
3.) There is no direct source how Latin words were originally pronounced, only poems and languages derived from Latin (esp. Italian and Church Latin) give a clue. Even in the Roman Empire, there would have certainly been different pronounciations.
4.) American pronounciation tends to add or change vocals (in this case change the first O to something different) and use a guttural R not used in the languages closest to Latin. In Italian, French or German we would just say, pronounce it as it is written.
5.) In the end use any pronounciation that people will understand.

I fully agree with you post, but the only nitpicky criticism I have is that your post seems to imply that German is closer to Latin than (American)English, while English is actually more closely related to Latin than German is.

Also, High Gothic isn't even an actual language of any kind, it is just Latin sounding gibberish.

In the end, the pronounciation depends on your native language and regional dialect.

I pronounce it...

Soh (As in the word So)-- roh (as in the word Row)-- rit (as in a basic are followed by the word It)-- ahs (as in the word Toss, but with a slightly different inflection).

But this is my own Texan dialect infecting it.

Yeah, because 'toss' in a normal accent (I'm teasing!) is in no way pronounced like something spelled with an 'a'.

English is a horrible combination of romance and germanic languages, mixed up with bits and pieces of whatever people felt like in the past.

It certainly reads like a Southern drawl...

It kind of does, since the "tas" of "Sororitas" sounds more like "toss" than it does "taz". "Sororitas" also does not rhyme with "margaritas".

Nope. Definitely more like Tassel than toss.

I mean, it's not Sororitarse.
