Ok had my first practice game for TOS in March, i used guard and decided to use a lord of war for the first time in 40k.
I was playing against Necrons, now it wasn't the best Necron list and he didn't know I would be using a super heavy but it was close to a white wash! He had 40 warriors in units of 10, Imoteck, a chronomitron cryptek, 2 monoliths, 2 destroyers+ 3 heavy destroyers.

I took this list;

1500 Pts - Imperial Guard Roster - Guard 970 plus stormlord at 530

HQ: Company Command Squad (8#, 150 pts)
4 Company Command Squad, 150 pts
1 Company Commander, Power Sword
1 Astropath
1 Master of Ordnance
1 Officer of the fleet

Troops: Infantry Platoon (25#, 130 pts)
1 Infantry Platoon, 130 pts
4 Platoon Command Squad
1 Platoon commander
9 Infantry Squad
1 Sergeant
9 Infantry Squad
1 Sergeant

Troops: Veteran Squad (10#, 100 pts)
9 Veteran Squad, 100 pts (Infantry; Assault Grenades; Flak Armour; Krak Grenades; Close Combat Weapon x9; Lasgun x6; Meltagun x3)
1 Veteran Sergeant (Character; Assault Grenades; Flak Armour; Krak Grenades; Laspistol; Close Combat Weapon)

It worked quite well i only had the infantry platoon command squad out on an objective in ruins and the storm lord on the table. Company command squad and one infantry squad in the storm lord firing out. All 3 vendettas turned up on turn two with one with an infantry squad and two with veteran squads in. He got a monolith deep strike on turn two and his destroyers turned up on turn 2 from reserve. His second monolith deep striked in turn 3. He was going first and the vendettas destroyed the first monolith on turn 2 while the Stormlord vulcan megaboltered the destroyers in turn two killing them all! He then decided to ignore the storm lord but had little else to shoot at, he conceded in turn 5 with two squads of warriors, Imotek and the cryptek left. I had first blood and line breaker plus 3 objectives and I had only lost the platoon command squad.

It was an interesting game but I think this list would probably fail against another escalation list with a lord of war with a D weapon as the storm lord would bite it and I would more than likely not have the power to take his down fast enough even with the vendettas.

The CCS seems to be a waste. You have 90points in advisers and I would also trying to make use of their Bs4.

Sorry but it bugs me a bit that you played a game w/ a super heavy and didnt inform your opponent till you were playing.

That being said i have a few questions. Whats the point of the ADL i would get rid of it for some Heavy weapons platforms in your Infantry platoon. Second whats the need for meltaguns in your vendettas, IMHO its over kill you arent going to face that much armour. I would change the veterans to have Democharge and 3 Flamers, once your vendettas pop a tank you can fry what ever is inside.& if you get assault all your models have melta bombs.

Just my 2 cents

Nettik, just to clarify that point on not informing him, i had requested a practice game for Throne of Skulls and it states in the rules pack you can use escalation and stronghold assault we just didn't show each other our army lists before we played. So hopefully not quite so unforgivable.

The Aegis defence line did turn out to be a complete waste of time and wasn't even used. However if he had taken 3 night scythes it might have come into it's own.

For the CCS they didn't do much just sat on the back of the Storm Lord and the master of ordnance missed every shot as he had but the astropath and master of the fleet were invaluable in manipulating reserves.

Good point on the vets they were really just a redundancy for tank killing and if he had of had a Lord of War they could have popped out and taken some more hull points off it.

Tankboy- yes using their bs 4 is a good idea, i just ran out of points!

Depending on how much you really think you need those advisers I would probably trade 2 of them and get lascannons on those infantry squads and on the CCS.
