the 30 regular gaunts screen with the venomthropes giving 5+ cover saves. tyranid prime joins one of the toxic sac hormagaunts.both trygon primes deepstike to provide additional synapse.

So, dos it sound like something thats going to be effective to a degree but also fun? or have i gone too far?

Sounds like a brutal melee list, but seems kinda rock-paper-scissors in that regard. You will probably do very well against other melee lists, but if you face a long ranged army or a heavy mechanized list, you have very limited anti tank, anti air, and ranged fire in general. I would definitely consider dropping one of the primes for a zoanthrope brood or other high str ranged support and dropping 1 or 2 hormagaunt squads for some flyers (if the list is intended to be somewhat all purpose).

Definitely looks like it'd be fun though, charging 120 gaunts up field.

I was trying to make an all out rush list, so just footslogging it, not ideal but fun, maybe i will find space for a lone zoanthrope...

I will admit i havent take anything ranged to deal with fliers, i kinda have nothing... XD

If you want a rush list use gargoyles, they are basically better than horms and terms.

you have no anti air and little to no shooting, if you get put up against any flyer with torrent or blast weapons your while army is toast and there's next to nothing you can do.

thats because i find everyone who goes, hay best make a shooty list then ends with a gun line, yeah i know no way to deal with flier's but with out taking a fly my self tyranids have no way to do it...

Sorry but what have you been smoking? Gargoyles took a hard nerf in this codex and are pretty horrid now. Only if they were troops choice would I even think about spending any points on them.

Clearly I've not been smoking something as strong as you.

So what use is a gargoyle? No better at shooting or assault than a Termagant and 50% more points. Yes they are faster but they are not troops and again 50% more points for zero extra damage potential. Why are they better than normal gaunts exactly?

While not as useful for actual damage potential or scoring, gargoyles still have a couple uses I think.

Gargoyles are still good for providing 5+ cover for a foot slogging nid army, especially if you have several MCs. This cover save coupled with venomthrope shrouded can give your MCs or other troops a 3+ cover save for a turn or 2 as your units advance.

Secondly, they are good for harassment against units that fare poorly in melee. They can usually get in melee by turn 2 unless they are focused (which is what you want anyway) and tie up a ranged unit for a turn.

Given how many gaunts are in this list though (and lack of walking MCs), you would need a lot of gargoyles to provide adequate cover, and at that point id just take more gaunts instead.
