Alright, it finally happened. I do not have the will to finish this book even though it is on my favorite Space Marine Chapter and that is because of C.S. Goto.
It's the Blood Ravens omni-bus that was written for the Dawn of War series. I played the games and really liked the Blood Ravens, even having started an argument on here about their origins because it being hinted in this very omni-bus but I can't finish it. I know all this is fiction and the writer and even us as players can make things up about our own chapters and the like but I always feel in the confines of established canon (Like using Chapter Approved for your own chapter) and Goto's blatant disregard for established canon is just annoying to say the least. His portrayal of the Alpha Legion and the Eldar is just dumb, that is all I can say about that and it makes me more aggravated that he is the one who established the canon for the Blood Ravens that I am extremely dissappointed that this is my favorite chapter because of Goto. It makes me want to just stick to the Inquisition, GK and Eldar.
This ever happen to anyone else? Excited to get some backround on one of their favorite aspects put into print only to have the author completely disregard information and sour your taste for it?

I've never disliked a BL book so much that I've stopped reading it, but I didn't like how Sandy Mitchell wrote the Sisters in the second Cain omnibus. They were, IMO, generally incompetent and at times very out of character. Though I still enjoyed omnibus book overall, that one aspect aside.
Ha, yeah, the Cain books do enjoy recycling. There's quite a few recurring phrases too. Though I don't find it too irriating. It's kinda endearing, in a way.
Though I do wish that Cain would fight a new enemy, a lot of the books have him fighting 'Nids, Chaos or Orks. 'Nids the most, I think. Dark Eldar would be an interesting change of pace, and he's even referenced being tortured by them before.

The only BL book I've given up on, the only book I've ever given up on in fact, was Storm Warriors. Couldn't really say why I just didn't get into it and it became a chore to read. I should probably give it another go I suppose, it's been that many years I can't even remember what it was about!

the Cain Books are at least forgiveable in that they're the man's memior's.
Thus mistakes at the least are forgiveable in a "it's a man's memories, he's prone to mistakes" heck there's been times the writer has PURPOSFULLY had Cain make a mistake and then corrected it in the footnotes.

Hunt for Voldorius was a horrible book. Aside from being poorly written, it annoyed me that they had ignored the new HH direction for the Alpha Legion and just made them typical moustache twirling morons. It was painful to get to the end and totally unrewarding.

Dude, it's C.S. Goto. He's a terrible writer and the DOW books serve little more purpose than being toilet paper. Buy the Space Marine short story collection, everything in it is good, and even has some good stories on the CSM's, especially the Black Legion.
But really man, it's Goto, what did you expect? Flawless writing? He's a horrible writer. I've heard that his Eldar books even border on what is pretty much torture rape in it/torture. He seems to vehemently hate eldar.
What I more hate about the BL is their BS 'marketing' tactics of printing a small amount of the omnibuses to jack up the price. So now I can't even buy a direct copy of the Iron Warriors omnibus unless I want to drop a hundred dollars for a book slightly over twenty bucks. The Black Library needs to have their marketing team fired and replaced.

Working in publishing myself, on demand publishing is definitely a thing these days. It's possible to order a book and get it printed and shipped the next day in a run of 1.
I don't understand why they would list any book as out of print... And not just black library but any publisher...

I sorta agree. I read up to some kind of siege, but then I just could not go on.
The whole killing-chaos-dreadnought-with-a-few-alien-cactuses also needs a lot of disbelief-suspension.
Even for 40K, which says a lot.

I've never finished a Black Library Book.
Something about Dan Abnett's Horus Rising really put me off. He places some ideas down on the table that don't belong in the genre for no other reason than what seems like bashing by proxy.
Now, I know Dan Abnett's meant to be one of the better writers. This doesn't bode well for the rest of the series if I don't like his books.
I've heard good things about Demsky-bowden though, so I've been looking into his fiction, too.

I'd have to say some of the resent Gotrex and felixs books/short shorts. everything up to about zombieslayer is decently written and engaging (at least to me), some of the newer writings have Felix reverting back to book one when he could barely hold this own against anything more terrifying then a cold (What makes that more frustrating this they reference their past deeds as in these stories -.-), undoing moral character growth, unclear placing in the established time line, etc. The writing is also slightly weaker over all. I'll have to reread some of the works for the anthology. Haven't started City of the Damn yet so we'll see if there is some form of redemption

Dembski-Bowden, if not for the fact that he writes genre fiction, would be one of the best authors on the planet. Seriously amazing work. Can't recommend it enough.
On the original topic: good lord, yes. The Soul Drinkers omnibus was one of the most miserable pieces of filth I've ever had the misfortune to open. The characters are awful, the plots are stilted, the whole cast suffers from special snowflake syndrome, (which, since it's contextual, is pretty freaking' ridiculous in Warhammer 40k!) and the editing is so atrocious as to be baffling. I've seen community college essays with fewer typos. Horrible.
