My FLGS is having a 4 month escalation 40k league, starting next month. Month 1 is 750 with 1 HS, HQ, Elite and FA per slot and no allies and forts.

Me being a C:SM player makes building a list like this not easy (but my meta isn't very competetive). I've made one with a Grav-Cent star (x3 Grav Centurions w/ TDA Librarain) and x2 5 man plasma tac squads w/ a ST. I tried to shake it up and swapped the centurions with 3 combi-plas sternguard (one 5 man unit) w/ level 2 PA librarain in a razorback, but that list got rolled. Now I'm thinking along this line:

Librarian w/ JP and MB
Vanguard Vets w/ JPs and Sgt. TH/SS
2 x8 Tac squads w/ PG and Sgt. Combi-plas
Skyhammer Storm Talon
TFC

749 pts

Not too sure what you're meta is, but I would probably run something along the lines of:
Hq
Libby mastery lvl 2

Troops
10 man tac, rhino, melts, mm, combi
10 man tac, rhino, plasma, PC, combi

Fast
Stormtalon w/ sky hammer

Heavy
Tfc

Its actually around 740 (at least with my list builder). And im not sure about the heavies being in the same squads, but i'll give it a try.

Well, you can combat squad when you're not doing kill points. If you only take 8 you can't combat squad them, and that flexibility is pretty big. What do you mean about the heavies in the same squad? You've got a heavy and an assault per squad, and you can split them into combat squads, or move em up with the rhinos.

Mostly based on experience (combined with bad rolling), my combat squads don't tend to survive very long, so i tend to keep the full strength squads in order to last longer.

You're probably right. But havin the option will go a long way. On objective games you've got 4 groups of scoring units, or 2 big squads. I tend to stay away from any groups smaller than 10 because the ability to combat squad is great even if you don't need it for a certain game. You get to react to your opponents list which is nice.

The list I made is much more shooty, with pretty much no CC, but you've got some pretty decent firepower, I'm not sure what you're fighting but with the sold troop core, an AA flyer and a awesome artillery piece in the TFC with some Lucy you should be fine, but hey yrmv.

Pretty much I'm fighting almost every army except for eldar, AS, and orks (no players signed up for those armies), with the marines being a slight (43%) majority, with a healthy mix of the IG, necrons and tau and the like. Like in the op, making a TAC list for this is tough, but i'll try the configuration you suggested, early on troops will be important.

I'm tinkering with switching the TFC for a Auto-Las pred. Other than Necrons, there isn't much that can handle AV13 in 750 IMO, unless people bring cheapo haywire. Thoughts?

It's a trade off. You can deal with pretty much any infantry with the TFC. Its solid against pretty much any troops. I like preds, but they tend to underpreform for me. I would probably take an dreadnought with double autocannons before a single tank, but thats not to say it wont work well for you. You could swap out the AA missiles to something meatier and use your flier for tank hunting as well and keep the TFC.

Just some thoughts.
