So I bought a thing of golden griffon and to my surprise it is all dried and rubbery, impossible to paint with. Is this usual?

I think I've encountered what you're talking about with some of their drybrush paints. I thought that was the way they were supposed to be, but it might not because the Ryza Rust technical is much softer and easy to apply to a drybrush (I know its a technical but it is the same technique, maybe there is supposed to be a difference).

When I use the Citadel Dry line, I use a drybrush and get as much as I can on the brush. I usually use one of my older, stiffer drybrushes as the dry paints that I have are quite rubbery. Then I wipe the brush on a paper towel and drybrush the area intended on the model. I find that their dry line works great for some things, horrible for others. I didn't like the gold, but I love the Tyrant Skull and Necron Compound.

I don't mean to sound condescending, but are you trying to apply the dry paint as you would a layer or base? It might be that the dry line is not very popular and therefore sits on the shelf drying up, but it might just be that the dry paints are supposed to be like that so they can be applied in a different fashion. If you're not sure how to use the dry paints from Citadel you might try looking up some of the videos on YouTube, I found quite a few talking about how thick the paints ere. Once again, I wasn't trying to talk down, just trying to help. Good luck!
