I'm finally, after almost a decade of modeling and painting, putting together a small, yet playable at my FLGS (they're big on small pickup games on their WHFB/40k days), 40k list. I've played a couple games using friends' armies, so I have a moderate yet hardly comprehensive grasp of the game, so any feedback on this list would be most appreciated. Since I can't completely shake the hobbyist/fluff nut tendencies I've developed during my time in the hobby, it's built primarily around fluff for my dream Marine army I've cultivated over the past few years, but I'm hoping it's also effective enough that I won't get annihilated every game I play.

HQ
Captain in Terminator Armor, Primarch's Wrath, Storm Shield: 145 Points

TROOPS
Tactical Squad: Sergeant with Combi-Flamer and Melta Bombs, 7 Marines with Boltguns, Marine with Missile Launcher, Marine with Flamer: 175 Points

Tactical Squad: Sergeant with Combi-Plasma, 7 Marines with Boltguns, Marine with Missile Launcher, Marine with Plasma Gun: 180 Points

Total: 500 points

I get the feeling that this list will be either super-awesome or total garbage. Please give me any feedback you have, being as brutally honest as possible. I want to make the leap from being nearly a pure hobbyist to finally playing with all these plastic spacemen I've been building and making pretty for all these years.

er, to my (not very good) mind, unless you're combat squading then it wont be too good at all, as you'll be snapfiring the missliles and often get one puff of flamer before you're bogged down. In smaller games, a Librarian can help LOADS (especially with biomancy/telepathy) I would replace captain with cheap, barebones libby, give squads rhinos and either combat squad them so the missiles hang back and rain rockets, or drop the launchers and work your way from there.

If you're deadset on keeping this army, my advice is to swap the primarch's wrath for some choppy item (PF of lightning claw) and have him footslog with the flamer chaps. If you drop both the melta bombs you could give your choppy Sgt.something like a power maul?

This is my thinking on a slight hangover, so take my words with a punch of salt.

Bad luck?! Schmad luck!

What would be a good replacment, if anything, for the launchers? Just go with boltguns and find a use for the 30 points?
