I've played with a lot of friends historical and have few of my own but can any one recommend any sites/stores that sell nicely detailed 25 or 28mm late Saxons and or Romano British figures. I know i can mix some late Roman into the British.

I've looked at a few sites a seen some nice individual models which are of good quality but the rest I've seen look a bit 'comicy' to me.

Does any one have any places that could help me with this?

Seems obvious, but have you had a look at Gripping Beast's plastic Saxons and Dark Ages warriors? They might be what you are looking for?

I Have had a look on there, might be my computor at the moment but they dont have a huge amount of pictures of the miniatures so im reluctant to commit. The ones i have seen from there are nice - like the individual charactors

Here's a review. I have the dark age warriors and I thought they were pretty nice, but I don't have any of them assembled yet.

Here's another with assembled Saxons:

Wargames Factory also do plastic saxons, not sure on the quality.

Thansk for those.

Im just not feeling the plastics.

I wish there were some late saxons more in this style

http://www.musketeer-miniatures.com/

they have some nice early saxon stuff though so i suppose i can convert a few up?

Yeah, those are lovely!
The plastics I suppose are quantity and price over quality. I don't really know any other manufacturers of Saxons, hopefully someone a bit more knowledgeable will be along soon!

I enjoy playing the game. but to be immesive for me meens having some really nice painted models, and the models look like they belog in that era, and not a cartoony version.

Im just fairly picky thats all!

I understand the desire, believe me! I'm just a little happier with plastic as a material, and so can put up with the slightly more exaggerated look of some of the models.

Which time period exactly are you looking for? You reference mixing Saxon and Roman, but then mention late Saxon. Are you collecting both?

In addition to Saxon, Musketeer also has a late Roman figure line that could be mixed for a 4-500 AD army.

West Wind has a variety of lines in the Arthurian product group. And the figure size should be fairly similar if you want to mix figs.

Thanks will have a look at both. Im looking to get two separate forces and won't be mixing them as from 2 separate time periods

Musketeer Miniatures' Saxons are fantastic. Very difficult to assemble though. Some of my Gedriht had so much flash on the hands that I had to carve/drill out grooves to fit the spears.

Be prepared for a lot of prep work.

Have a look at http://www.grippingbeast.com/shop.php. They do everything from Late Roman and Arthurian/Romano-British to Early Germanic Saxons, Mid-Late Anglo Saxons and Anglo Danish.

I've never had trouble with flash on the figures I've gotten from Musketeer - although I've only purchased minis from the Caliphate line. Could be that you got a bad batch from a production mold which should have been replaced.

Maybe. Some of the hands were solid blocks of metal.

My Aella and bannerman were perfect though.

Thanks guys for all your help - I've found some nice models in what was listed - think i will go with some Romano British to start and throw in a mix of late Romans to make it look more like the romans just left rather than the any later than that.
