Subject: Tyranid - sources of light?

I wopuld like to experiment with painting sources of light on a model. The trouble is I am painting tyranids and they do not have that many sources of light on their body. The only thing I can think of is if I placed a ball of greenstuff in a carnifex mouth and had it shoot plasma.
Do you have any other sugestion? Perhaps the brain of the tyranid zaontripe? The mind of the hive tyrant?

You can do the slits in the flesh as light sources, or inbetween the ribs. But then you end up with a lot of light sources so it's a lot of work.

Yes I did think about this. The paint scheme I am using is the leviathan where the non carapace parts are white. If I was using all the rib caes it would be better if this part was dark like the necron rib slits.
I might add some glow efect on the termagant now that you mentioned it. The sack is already a very warm glow.
More sugestions would be apreciated.

You could just pick say, one monstrous creature, and make it a model that will stand out visually by giving it some unique features even though it's a known hive fleet color scheme.
Take your carnifex and any parts of the body that are open rifts with slits filling them, make them glowing. That way you can experiment with the aura of light that will show up on the carapace around it.
Show us a picture of the job when you're done it. I'm about to start experimenting with OSL when my airbrush arrives next week.

Watch the movie Avatar!
Tonnes of osl inspiration in there.
If you're not sure about giving the nids themselves a glow then bioluminescent plants on the bases could be a way to go.
Or industrial lighting from a space hulk or lava fields or something?
Or sculpt some muzzle flashes of highly bright stuff, green, pink, purple, blue from the guns and work the osl from there, think Halo needler.

I guess you could make it so that their eyes glow? That would mean a lot less light sources than if you used the exposed muscles areas for the light. Was thinking actually, for the gants that have the guns with the eyes on the side, that could be turned into a light source rather than an eye.

Most of the bioforms have weapons that you could OSL up. Whether it be deathspitters, venom cannon or even the claws or boneswords.
