So I've always loved the look of nids and have always wanted to play them, so when the new codex came out I jumped at the chance to finally play them and since the codex was released I have been purchasing and painting some models up and here's a small 750 point list I came up with:

HQ
Tyranid Prime w/ deathspitter, rending claws and adrenal glands

Troops
x30 Hormagaunts

x20 Devilgaunts

Heavy Support
x3 Biovore

Exocrine

750 on the nose. Any and all criticism is welcome!

The Prime is pretty expensive, but I've not used him yet in this Codex.
20x Devilgaunts is not the best way to spend your points. Try 20x Gaunts with a free weapon and 10x gaunts with devourers mixed in the same unit. More will survive to lay down their firepower.
30x Hormagaunts. I like them, but in this list nothing will be able to keep up with them.
I like the biovores at this point level.
The exocrine also seems ok, but will be the target of almost all of your opponents AT fire.
A big problem is synapse. You have 1 synapse creature in this list, I'd try to fit in a zoanthrope so he can provide synapse and buff your guys and possibly provide AT as your AT power is limited.

thanks for the advice! how does this look?

HQ
Tyranid Prime w/ adrenal glands, rending claws and deathspitter

Elites
Zoanthrope

Troops
x20 Hormagaunt

x30 Termagaunts w/ 10 devs and 20 fleshborers

Tervigon w/ crushing claws

Heavy Support
x2 Biovore

once again 750 on the nose

Your synapse here is strong. I wasn't saying that I didn't like the exocrine, but it would just be railed by all the enemy AT. In this list the AT is going to go for the Tervigon. I wonder where you want to put that Tyranid Prime? He is 150 points right now. I would remove him and remove the crushing claws from the Tervigon to give you 165 points. with those points you can buy a Hive Tyrant. This would take some of the AT pressure off of your tervigon. Removing the crushing claws from the Tervigon is no big deal. With the crushing claws he has Str. 6 Ap2 Armorbane 4 attacks on charge. Without the claws he has Str. 5 Ap2 4 attacks on charge OR str 10 ap2 3 attacks on charge when using smash. Now you need to work in a way to buy a weapon for the hive tyrant. Maybe remove 3 Hormagaunts and give him a stranglethorn cannon. Those Str. 6 ap5 pinning pie plates will probably be more effective than 3 hormagaunts. The range will also pose another threat for your opponent to worry about early game rather than just the hormagaunts and biovores. I'm no experienced 6th edition Tyranid player, but these choices are what I would go with.
