General self-imposed rules: No allies, no special characters unless absolutely required (in which case they will be converted and/or renamed to my own characters and used for counts-as purposes), no fortifications unless absolutely required.

Still trying to figure out what appeals to me. I have been thinking of Eldar and I have two ideas that I'm looking at:

List #1 - Craftworld Cothromach - "Fluffy" Army

Fun Fact: Cothromach means "balanced" in Gaelic

HQ
Farseer @ 115
+ Jetbike
2x Warlocks @ 70

ELITE
6x Fire Dragons incl. Exarch w/Firepike @ 292
+ Wave Serpent w/TL Bright Lance, Holo-Field
6x Striking Scorpions incl. Exarch w/Scorpion's Claw
+ Wave Serpent w/TL Starcannon, Holo-Field

TROOPS
10x Guardian Defenders w/Bright Lance @ 110
10x Guardian Defenders w/Starcannon @ 110
6x Windrider Jetbikes w/2x Shuriken Cannons @ 122

FAST ATTACK
5x Warp Spiders incl. Exarch w/TL Death Spinner @ 110

HEAVY SUPPORT
Fire Prism @ 125
2x Warwalkers w/2x Starcannons @ 140

TOTAL: 1471 so I have room for some wargear

Going for fluffy which means all Aspect Warriors are required to have an Exarch since a shrine wouldn't go to war without having the Exarch present.

Basic idea is: Farseer w/Jetbikes, one Warlock for each Guardian squad. The Dragons and Scorpions' Wave Serpents are kitted out for the appropriate role (tank/elite hunting for the Dragons, general combat firepower for the Scorpions). Fire Prism blows things up and looks cool whilst doing it.

+++++++++++++++
List #2 - The Tears of Erem'atsac - Wraith Army (possibly using Iyanden rules)

Bit of backstory on this: The idea I came up with is that something terrible befell this Craftworld (or possibly House, not sure) and except for the Spiritseer they are all dead; said Spiritseer is haunted by their spirits and quite possibly is insane (I imagine him speaking to them constantly, as though they were alive although my Eldar fluff is hazy and maybe Spiritseers can actually communicate with the dead via the Infinity Circuit). Inspiration comes from the Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire song "The Rains of Castamere", particularly the last verses: And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that Lord of Castamere. But now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear. Yes, now the rains weep o'er his hall, and not a soul to hear

Fun Fact: The name of this house/craftworld is Castamere backwards

Extra self-imposed rules: All wraiths units other than the Spiritseer. Wave Serpents will be painted with closed hatches as they too are meant to be ghost-piloted.

HQ
Spiritseer @ 70

TROOPS
5x Wraithguard w/D-Scythes @ 330
+ Wave Serpent w/TL Scatter Laser
5x Wraithguard @ 280
+ Wave Serpent w/TL Scatter Laser
5x Wraithblades w/Ghost Axe and Forceshield @ 280
+ Wave Serpent w/TL Scatter Laser

HEAVY SUPPORT
1x Wraithlord w/Bright Lance @ 140
1x Wraithlord w/Starcannon @ 140
1x Wraithknight @ 240

TOTAL: 1480

Note: This is mostly chosen to make good use of the Iyanden/Ghost Army boxed set available on the GW site :p

Let me state that I really like the look of the Wraith models, but I'm a bit skeptical since it seems to be quite small and could fall prey to "TFG" syndrome with Wave Serpent spam plus a Wraithknight, fluffy or not, while the balanced list seems to spread itself out a bit better (and is like $200 more expensive… ) however I'm unsure of the current meta other than knowing I don't want to go super serpent spam or cheese like Jetseer Councils.

Are either of these options any good? I like to keep as close to the fluff as possible, but I don't want to sacrifice effectiveness to play fluffy.

I played list #2 (kinda) today for a TAC FLGS tournament and did fantastic (I played vs Chaos/IG, Blood angles, Necrons) I too used the WK/WG/Seer and foud with the serpents they mesh really well...Then there are the WLs and boy do they fail for their points, (mental note, we were not using standard BRB missions so no heavies were scoring) they are to shlow for serpents and WKs, their CC is pitiful, and their shooting unless being guided by a farseer isn't nearly as great as another eldar option for 140pts (looking at you serpent/crimson hunter).

As far as to answer your question list #2 is the moset solid and hard to deal with, only changes while still being in your rules are, for the WLs take duel SL on them for best AA (in case the serpents need to kill something else) or if your not worried about air units take duel BL.

Somewhere you can get the other 20pts from is dropping 2 scythes, it is probably worth it.

Bush? No, Eldar Ranger

List one has some serious potential. The Fire Prism NEEDS Holofields though.

Furthermore, be extremely cautious having only Guardians capture. They melt very easily to, say, Tau Pulse Rifles. I'd suggest dropping one of those teams for some Dire Avengers or rangers for a little more staying power.

Aside from that, your Cothromach should be just that.

School's out, the War Machine rolls once more

I've played a few games with the 2nd list and done very well so that one gets my vote. The only downside really is the slow wraithlords, they just can't keep pace with the rest, i swapped mine for a crimson hunter and a jetbike unit.
