Hi all,

I am a little new here I apologize if I should make a spelling mistake, hope you can bear with me.
First of I am a veteran Fantasy player, but this is my fifth 40K game. So my knowledge is properly limited at some points. I am a space marine player at heart love the figures. So far all my first four games have been a small victory, with trying to recover from some of the moron mistakes, I make because I am still new. But I have asked all to give me no favors, as I think Ill learn better from ones mistakes.
But any ways here goes. I am up against 2500 Chaos Space Marines – never played them, and only seen a few people do. The guy I am up against, I know a few things, he pretty skilled. He is also running hard lists, we are talking about 3 Helldrakes and Plague Zombies standard. I have seen Obliterators/Forgefiends in heavy before, other than that I have no idea what he will be bringing.
Have to say I am a Fan of Ultramarines, but still trying to find something that works (Just love Tigurius)

But this would be my list:

HQ:
Chief Librarian Tigurius – 165pts
Terminator Chapter Master with Terminator armor/Thunder hammer/ The Shield of Eternal – 235pts

Troops:
10 Scouts - with Sergant Telios, sniper rifles and Camocloaks 2 Combat squads– 187pts
10 Tacticals – with one flamer and one Heavy flamer maybe in 2 combat squads– in a drop pod – 190pts
10 Tacticals – with one missile launcher and one Plasma gun – 170pts

Elites:
Ironclad Dreadnought – With power fist and Seismic hammer (both with Flamers) in a drop pod – 180pts
10 Sterngguard Veterans – combat squads in 5 with each 2xCombi flamer + 2 Combi Melta + 1 Melta in a drop pod – 365pts
Fast Attack:

Heavy Attack:
Stormraven Gunship – with Assault cannon + Twin-linked Multi Melta + Side Hurricane Bolters – 230pts
Stormraven Gunship – with Assault cannon + Twin-linked Multi Melta + Side Hurricane Bolters – 230pts
5 Devastator Centurions with Sergeant with omniscope – 4 with Heavy bolters and 4 with Hurricane bolters, sergeant with Missile launcher and twin linked lascannon – 340pts

Fortifications:
Aegis Defence line - with Quad-gun - 100pts
2 Wall of Martyrs Vengeance Weapons Battery – with Quad Icarus lascannons - 100pts
These are allowed in or playing area.

That should leave 8 points to spare, to give a small upgrade somewhere. This makes me think I should have enough to deal with those mean helldrakes. I should also have enough to deal with all his small units. The one weak side I see is that I don’t have that many bodies. And if I only brings high armor items, then I can see a problem. But this was my idea, but let me hear your thoughts, if you have any pointers, or if am way off.

Hope it all makes sense, if not then do ask

Best regards
Henrik.

First off, welcome to Dakka, and 40k.

High point lists are harder to get right IMHO. I think you have an OK one here. I’d do some things differently, but some of that is just preferences.

Where are your HQs going? What are your plans? Stick them with the Centurions?

I’d kinda like to see another troop pick at this point level, but you might be OK with what you have.
Scouts could use a heavy. I like the HB, others like the ML.
Heavy flamers are only for sternguard and LotD, not tactical squads unfortunately.

I like sternguard in a drop pod. I don’t like that many combi weapons, and think the only weapon worth giving up your special ammo for is the heavy flamer. If I was going to kit out them, I’d stop at 3 combi meltas and two heavy flamers. Combat squad if you need to, or stick together.

Ravens are nice gunboats.

While the centurions are going to mulch lightly armored troops in that configuration, it’s a bit overkill for that, and you could be using them to hunt bigger game. I think the grav cannons are what you want here, rather then the HBs.

Flamers don't do much to chaos, unless he's moving a bunch of zombies at you.

Also, reg TAC marines can't use heavy flamers

With, chaos space marines, my opinion is stay out of close combat.

Hit them with as much plasma, melta AP3 as you can find.

Nurgle sucks to play against. I've watched a mob of 30 tzeentch cultist decimate my marines/terminators with rending hits.

Some small changed;

HQ:
Chief Librarian Tigurius – 165pts
Terminator Chapter Master with Terminator armor/Thunder hammer/ The Shield of Eternal – 235pts

Troops:
5 Scouts - with Sniper rifles and camocloaks - 70pts
10 Tacticals – with one plasma maybe in 2 combat squads– in a drop pod – 190pts
10 Tacticals – with one missile launcher and one Plasma gun in two combat squads– 170pts

Elites:
Ironclad Dreadnought – With power fist and Seismic hammer (with flamer + melta) in a drop pod – 180pts
10 Sterngguard Veterans – combat squads in 5 with each 1xCombi flamer + 2 Combi Melta a drop pod – 325pts
Fast Attack:

Heavy Attack:
Stormraven Gunship – with Assault cannon + Twin-linked Multi Melta + Side Hurricane Bolters – 230pts
Stormraven Gunship – with Assault cannon + Twin-linked Multi Melta + Side Hurricane Bolters – 230pts
5 Devastator Centurions with Sergeant with omniscope – 4 with Grav cannons and 4 with Missile launchers, sergeant with Missile launcher and twin linked lascannon – 470pts

Fortifications:
Aegis Defence line - with Quad-gun - 100pts
2 Wall of Martyrs Vengeance Weapons Battery – with Quad Icarus lascannons - 100pts

Changed a few small things - This should leave 35 points for something...

My idea is that the HQ is with the centurions, both to buff and to protect them...

My only thought is that i don't have many troops, and don't know if this is going to be a problem... Or if i am Missing something..

Only 3 troop choices in a 2500 point game? Yikes! With such cheap troops, you should take 5, or at least 4. I take 3 at 2000 points, and I play thousand sons at 300 points per troop squad. Get some more point scoring units.

This is an alternative list.

Chief Librarian Tigurius – 165pts
(With the centurions)

Troops: 673
5 Scouts - with Boltguns and 1 Heavy bolter(hellfire rounds) and camocloaks - 78pts
5 Scouts - with Sniper Rifles and 1 Missile launcher and camocloaks - 85pts
10 Tacticals – with one Plasma gun maybe in 2 combat squads– in a drop pod – 190pts
10 Tacticals – with one Plasma gun and one with Missile launcher in 2 combat squads– 155pts
10 Tacticals – with one Heavy bolter and one Plasma gun in 2 combat squads– 165pts

Elites: 505
Ironclad Dreadnought – With power fist and Seismic hammer (with flamer + melta) in a drop pod – 180pts
10 Sterngguard Veterans – combat squads in 5 with each 1xCombi flamer + 2 Combi Melta a drop pod – 325pts

Fast Attack:
Storm Talon – With Twin-linked Assault cannon and Twinlinked – Skyhammer missile launcher – 125pts

Heavy Attack: 730
Stormraven Gunship – with Assault cannon + Twin-linked Multi Melta + Side Hurricane Bolters – 230pts
Predator – with twin linked lascannon and side lascannons – 140 pts
4 Devastator Centurions with Sergeant with omniscope – 4 with Grav cannons and 4 with Missile launchers, sergeant with Missile launcher and twin linked lascannon – 360pts

Fortifications: 250
Aegis Defence line - with Quad-gun - 100pts
2 Wall of Martyrs Vengeance Weapons Battery – with Quad Icarus lascannons - 150pts

HQ is with the centurions behind the Defence line.
2 scout groups will infiltrate to get in good position.
1” Tacticals is in a drop pod to get Elites in first turn. And is combat squads of 5.
2” Tacticals is combat squads of 5 - one with plasma, if walking forward. One with missile launcher is staying sergeant is manning the quad-gun.
3” Tacticals is combat squads of 5 - one with plasma, if walking forward. One with Heavy Bolter is staying back
Ironclad, is going after any armor he should have.
Sternguards, is going after Armor or any target their ammo will benefit from.
Storm Talon is escorting the Storm raven, and going after Infantry or light armor.
Storm raven is going after High armor or light armor
Predators is going after High armor
Centurions Devastators, is going for high armor, and general cleaning.
The Defence line grants cover, and the quad-gun is for the Flyers.
Weapons batteries is for all the flyes.

Changed a few things - This should leave 52 points for something, maybe a Landspeeder if I can find the point for one more weapon on it... I just don’t know if it is a good idear going with only one HQ, and not any big protection on the Centurions, other than if I get the 4+ invul.
I have taken some fast choices because they can be scoring in some missions.

I don't know if this is better, it is more multitooled I think, but alot of bolters.

It looks to be a more well rounded list. There are always things that could be tweaked, but at some point you need to call it a day and put the plastic on the table and see how it goes.

Good Hunting!
