Just curious about peoples opinions on Necrons and allies. Has anybody been successful with allies or is it truly a waste being that Necrons are fairly strong across the board.

I have a Stormeagle and a chaplain dreadnought with CC arms from Forge World left over from my GK army and LOTD detachment. I was contemplating using these in a small Marine detachment of some kind to add some CC to my Necrons.(Minotaur's) I know Marines are not ideal as allies but In Australia I cannot sell the Forge World for anything but a complete loss. So I can either sell them (they're brand new still in packets) or make use of them.as a small allied force used to drop in and do some CC damage.

Alternatively I am open to the idea of something completely new for an allied force although Chaos do not appeal to me.

I am thinking of painting the dread and storm eagle into Minotaur's. and buying 20x marines and 10x terminators squad with Minotaur's shoulder pads. I really like the Minotaur's Fluff.

How you ally with your Necrons depends on how you play them. However, Necrons suffer from a lack of long-range, high str shooting. They are a fast-moving, mid-range, shooty army that also has above-par durability. You can buff them up with some cheap scoring/screening units, or by sprinkling in some more long-range threats. If you run SM, as your allies, you could run the Dread with some heavy firepower or in a assault configuration depending on where you need to shore up your forces.

The worst part about 40k is that my models don't hug me back.

Orks can work well, some cannon fodder and CC.

I am thinking of using the storm eagle and buying the Minotaur contemptor dread and moloc. I am not sure as to what units I could use. 10-20x marines and 5-10x termies?
