I noticed one can swap out the demolisher cannon on the legion vindicator for a laser destroyer array more commonly seen on the rapier carriage. I like that it has an extra foot of range over the demolisher, but that s10 ap2 pie plate is hard to give up.

Has anybody tried this out, or is it one of those options that isn't worth a second look from a practical standpoint?

Is it the weapon found on the rapier? or the one from the the guard Destroyer tank?. When the rules said the rapier destroyer was ap1 it was good and worth swapping out quad lascannons for (on tanks with that option) but now its been downgraded to ap2 its not worth it... 2 twinlinked shots is better than re-rolling the pen on one twinlinked shot imo plus the range isnt as good as the lascannons.

I'm pretty sure it's the one from the rapier.

I don't remember seeing a faq for the HH books saying to reduce the laser destroyer down to ap2.

The rules for 40k IG and SM Rapier Laser Destroyers are AP2, but the HH one remains AP1, so Legion Laser Destroyer Vindicators are still AP1.

IMO, a Vindicator is too expensive a platform for a single Rapier. If you really need Laser Destroyers, two Rapier Laser Destroyers are cheap and as long as you deploy them well, are fine. Or if you need them mobile, mount them on a Spartan and fill it with a 10 man Terminator Squad, or a 20 Man assaulty Tac Squad with an Apothecary. This gives your big, expensive squad mobility, and nets you two Rapiers on a very survivable chassis.
