Is there a good alternative to the old GW brown ink? I've been using it for basing (brush it onto sand, instant dirt) but I'm running low.

Try a brown artists acrylic ink. I THINK the old brown ink was equivalent to Burnt Umber... but maybe double check.

^^ This info is spot on. Liquitex's Burnt Umber is an exact match to GW's brown ink (well, it actually flows better!)
