Dakka,

Some of you may remember me from my “Lost” diorama a few years ago? Maybe not?

Anyway, that was my first foray into the wonderful world of diorama making. Now I’d like to present my second.

It’s called “I am two bullets”

If anyone would like to see it’s making-of (including a lot more result pictures), you may do so right here: http://www.keepitrusty.com

Voting on CMON too, if you have a minute: http://www.coolminiornot.com/358441

I hope you like it. Of course, any and all comments welcome!

Cheers.

it's looks perfectly grimdark, but Elysians don't really just hang around and dig in. DKOK would probably work better with this idea.

Not sure what the blue soldier is supposed to be. Is he from Infinity or something?

Thanks for your comments - I should add, any and all models I ever use are picked based solely by their designs. I'm afraid to say I know little about the 40K history.

Knowing more about 40k fluff will allow you to make better story-telling in your dioramas.

Fair enough - but I don't make dioramas for 40K. 40K just happens to have a nice catalogue of models.

Cool diorama, you've done the water and leaf litter especially well.

I think this is awesome, sure you may niggle some if you don't get the background exactly right. But when it looks as good as this I don't think it really matters. You could have a Deamon and a Grey Knight skipping in a field together if the execution was as good!

The attention to detail is perfect, so much character, a diorama can be quite boring if you don't get it right but this has so much to look at and you could just imagine this 'scene' playing out and for a inanimate object thats pretty cool.

Very cool, excellent water work... love the guy rising up to cap the sniper team.

Very nice future war dio. Top dollar mate, any links to more of your work?

Yeah that is amazing, I would love to be able to paint and create like that. Also, I like the way you presented the photography, not sure if that is photoshop for the selective blur of genuine depth of field but you did a good job of drawing the eye in each picture!

Thanks! The water was especially hard on this one given the curvature of the diorama, so I'm glad you like it

Kind words here, Sir. Thank you. I do understand that it might not add up in the 40k universe, so I hope most others can look past this too

Coloring is always a big hurdle for me, I'm never 100% on them when in the throws of painting. Thanks for your comments!

I realised after I took the pictures that I forgot to re-add the splashes of gloss varnish to the assassin, so he doesn't look so dry on his top half now. All my work can be seen here: www.rusty-robot.co.uk. Thanks

YouTube videos and other tutorials helped me massively, I'd reccomend giving it a go to anyone! Thanks for your props though, it's encouraging. The pictures have just had a little contrast added to them in iPhoto (because it was easy). Everything else is in camera (the lighting is my daylight modelling lamp and the background is an old black lever-arch folder)

Awesome! Thanks for remembering it and your words. This was about 100 hours work.

The whole piece was "built" inside a large PVC pipe. It's tough but perfect to shape with a Dremel. Thanks for the props!

Well elysians are based on the 101st airborne who spent over half there time in the field in holding and defensive actions ( carentan. Bastogne . Holland .) so don't worry about the narative being off . Very well executed would of used more neutral tones on the enemy figure but that's down to taste.

This is good to know, thanks Curnow. Elysian models always struck me as an airborne unit.

I thought a lot about using more neutral colours on the Assassin, but in the end the idea of him wearing a somewhat outlandish uniform made it more disturbing for me as he's not made any effort to camouflage himself.

Thanks for your comments

Wow this is just so cool. The details really bring it to life. These two talented marksmen have been picking off enemy troops for days and finally get wasted I imagine it took hours for that guy to sneak behind their trench works.

I absolutely love it. Only took three static models and some mud to really tell a story. Bravo!

I remember 'Lost' ... thought it was great.

This is a whole other level better.

I love the way the sequence of photos build up the story. The big reveal of the assassin rising out of the water was great, and totally flipped my perception of what the diorama was going to be about.

Really, really enjoyed that.

The making of is on my blog: www.rusty-robot.co.uk. Any questions, please ask! Also, the base is the bottom of an old kitchen roll holder!

Yeah, he's an Assassin who has outflanked or parachuted in.
