So I have been toying around with LotD primary and have been having a lot of fun with them in casual play and figured I should see how competitive I can get them (and seeing as how they can poop on mechdar from the adepticon results I'm hoping I can do extremely well with them)

This is pretty much standard FOC abuse to get everything I want rolled into one happy army. The scouts sit on the skyshield hopefully as far back as possible to stay out of LoS and on an objective while the firebase sits up front and shoots away. The LotD are forward scoring and melt mech. Grav cents tackle the high armour units like riptides or bikes etc. If tiggy rolls forwarning they will probably be more forward then the firebase since they wont need the 4++ from the skyshield. A lack of scoring does come to mind in this list butiI'm hoping the hitting power it can provide will usurp that weakness.

Edit: Switched some things around like having farsight enclave for the firebase instead of vanilla tau.

I'd try to find the points to give the Xenos Rad grenades. He'll be with the Cents (I assume), and it will make that unit a little more effective in assault.
You're going to have some problems against Flying lists. I used the Tau formation in a tournament, set up with all EWO, and afterwards decided to give one Missileside unit VTs. The Riptide will do alright with it, but shooting at air conflicts with his true desire to drop templates on Marines. It's a lot of points to find...but I think it's worth it. Maybe lose one unit of Damned?

What is your estimation of what will happen after the LotD arrive?

It looks to me like a shooty list with some legion in it... those legionaries are the only unit with a 24" ranged weapon on the roster. Given the total points in the list, if your opponent's list has any units for HtH combat, the legionaries are gonna be a nice tool for your opponent to obstruct your firing lanes while he advances toward you....

Did I miss something?

For me the legion has been more of a help than a hindrrance vs CC armies since they can usually hold their own and are great for taking out whatever support units they have in the backfield. If I need to I can always just try to hold them back in reserves with tiggy until enough of the dust has cleared to give them room to be effective. I have found that in my meta there is rarely a time where some LotD aren't useful.

Against heavy air lists I agree its gonna be an uphill battle, the VT on the tide is just for that extra padding for AA even though he should be just blasting away at ground troops. Yes the xeno inquisitor will probably just be hiding with the cents to prevent first blood but there really isnt much to drop for those rad grenades to improve the CC ability of a unit I hope never has to even enter CC. Sure I could drop the stims for ewo and the grenades or do the same with the VT but both of those upgrades will always be useful as compared to some grenades that I hope I never have to use in the first place.
