I'm not new to the minature gaming scene, but new to 40k and Warhammer in general. I have played a lot of blood bowl, necromunda, and Warmachine. I played a couple of 40k games...years ago, played a bunch of Terminators, it was fun. Trying to get into 40k as Warhammer Fantasy doesn't have a big following here. I am trying to decide what army to go with or ju8st wait until the 7th edition book is released.

Welcome to the hobby! I am going to recommend you stare at the shelves and pick a single unit that looks cool to you, buy unto his army and then focus on making that unit as badass as possible. I personnally like like marine scouts and chaplains. When I can I use them and make them as awesome as I can.

This will ensue you get the most fun out of them. I'd probably aim at a 500pts army to start and building from there. Just remember that you need two troops and an hq minimum for the army to be legal right now.

Welcome, you sadly came in at a bad time. Were about to go through a rule set change so I would hold off on learning the game quite yet. However this will give you a good time to buy your first models and Codex. So buy away!!! Also with the changes in the new edition don't worry about what your buying just buy models you like.

From the stuff I have looked at I like the Imperial Knights and Legion of the Damned models.

Of course I also like the idea of a guard armored company

I think it's the best time to start, as everyone else will be in the same boat as you, all learning the new rules together Also, welcome. Hope you find it as much fun as I do.
