So i recently dove into the hobby head first and bought the Tyranid Swarm box in hopes of embracing both the gaming and craft side of the hobby. As I trudge through the assembly of 80 gaunts, I am beginning to consider how I want to proceed with this army. Specifically, I am looking for any tips, painting, converting, or otherwise in how to successfully create an army that is impressive to look at on the table. I am definitely leaning towards a more organic paint scheme on the darker side. I also am looking for any thoughts on magnetizing some of the larger creatures. Any help would be appreciated.

Thats from my hive fleet. I went for an organic flesh and bone look but it depends how you want your army to look. I recomend leaving the carapace with a matt finish

That looks phenomenal. Almost exactly what I want. May I am what colors you used, as well as, what your gaunts look like? I'm trying to decide if try should all match or vary based of species.

I used Tallarn flesh as a base coat then washed over with Ogryn flesh before being highlighted with Tallarn flesh. For the carapace :
Khremi brown
then graveyard earth
highlight with 3:1 mix of graveyard earth and bleach bone
highlight with a 1:1 mix of the above
highlight with bleached bone
wash with devlan mud
highlight with 1:3 mix of bleached bone and skull white.

Afraid I have no Gaunts to show off. I am tackling all my monsters first then going in for the smaller troops later. any other questions just give me a PM. I was thinking of making a video tutorial for the bone.
