Hey guys,

So i recently picked up a load of DA veterans and i want to convert them into the renegades known as "The Fallen".
For those who don't know they're DA turned evil just after the Horus Heresy.
I was just wondering how chaos-ey they should look and want your guys opinions on it.
I want them to look dark and sinister but not too warped by chaos.
Another question, and i know it doesnt belong here, but would it be ok to use the Chaos Codex for this army?
Thanks guys!

I have a small warband of Fallen.

I decided to steer away from too much Chaos accessories, with the exception on my champions.
Swapping to Chaos bolters isn't a bad place to start.

One conversion I did was to modify the Power Packs so they were more like Cyphers:

It uses the large Dark Angels icon from the Ravenwing sprue, removing the sword, and replacing the exhausts of the Power Pack. I find it differentiates the Fallen from both the Loyalists and the Heretics.

Other conversion suggestions I'd give is to look up the older version of the Red Corsairs, which were basically just loyalist marines with a few Chaos bitz.

If a piece has too much Chaos Iconography just trim it off, but be careful, both to avoid cutting yourself, and to avoid removing detail you may want to keep.

Strange as it may sound, some suitable modified Space Wolf bits work to further the suggeston of not being Loyalist but also not Chaos.

Also, don't be afraid to bash the bitz box. You get some real characters that way:

Thats all I can really think of for now. Good luck my Fallen Brother

Oh my god the second last picture looks amazing
Thanks a lot, ive made my Champion have horns growing out of his head but the rest will just have a bit darker colour schemes. I like your models a lot, you have done a great job with them

Ive bought some Sanguine Guard off my friend and using the wings to make a leader, maybe Attais and 4 body guards and il show you the pictures when they're done.
Thanks again!

Keep in mind, Heresy era Dark Angels were black armoured so not sure how a lot of people justify Fallen wearing green.

Yeah, I realized that liittle issue fairly late into painting my guys.

I've recently decided for my own force that only the Champions, Chosen and Leaders are true Heresy Era Dark Angels, whilst everyone else are Traitor Marines they have "Employed." They lead their squads into a furious rage when they fight against Loyalist marines, and especially dislike Dark Angels*. The Armour colour was done by the Fallen to both mock their Loyalist counterparts, and sow distrust amongst the imperium, who would only see Dark Angels leading assault against their allies.

I was considering going a bit further with this, with having my Champions/Chosen and HQs in Black armour, with the "Employed" marines in DA Green. My CSM Champions are already using Possessed parts to show the Gift of Mutation upgrade

*represented by all models having VotLW when possible.

@Tko75
What I say however, doesn't change Dert84's point. Heresy-Era Dark Angelss should have Black Armour, as per their Heresy-colours. They were swept away in a warpstorm, and so they wouldn't have had time to repaint their personal armour. MY own fluff will of course be very flimsy to anyone with a better knowledge of Dark Angels than I.

Its easy. They've been out of he warp for a while and realised that it might be best to be a bit more inconspicuous by matching the "modern" chapter colours.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Okay thank you guys, you have a great point about the pre-heresy colours so i think il stick to black armour with white and red trims, with the cloaks being bleached bone.
Thanks a bunch!
