Ok, so I was watching Arrow the other night and whilst Summer's character was in the middle of a fight it suddenly dawned on me that she could easily play a young Ripley or daughter of Ripley (looking like a young Sigourney Weaver). Anybody else see the resemblance?

I see where you are going with that, yeah could work well.

I do see the resemblance, but I'd actually quite like to the Alien franchise go on without Ripley.

This thread title is very, very misleading, I thought there had been some casting news, not a random hypothetical musing. I think you should change it.

That being said, yes, I think she would probably be a good pick but that I'd prefer some new stories in that universe instead of rebooting finished ones.

Same. Please change the title. I do agree with your thoughts, but they are your thoughts only and the title looks like its a fact.

I watched Ace Ventura: Pet detective over the weekend. When I read the thread title, all I could think about was some variant on:
'Finkel is Einhorn!'

I dont like the young Ripley idea, yes Summer Galu would fit but the Ripley in Aliens was very green.

Building a prequal about the character could not include aliens, which would miss most of the point of the franchise, unless she appeared in a cameo in another characters story.

Now I do believe there is ample room for non-aliens storylines in the aliens franchise universe, because the visualisation is great, but that isnt how Hollywood works.

Isn't the new Aliens game based on Ripley's daughter? If it is then Glau could work as her daughter!? Just because she was dead when Ripley got back to Earth, there is no saying that her daughter didn't have her own adventures

Summer Glau doesn't look anything like Sigourney Weaver. Well she does in the sense that she's a skinny woman with wavey brown hair. She's not even that tall is she?

Yes, in the new game it is, and I think that's also a big problem for several reasons - "it's a dumb idea" being chief, "it gaks all over the continuity" being a close second.

I think the Alien universe is a great universe and well suited for a survival horror game, and, despite how utterly awful A:CM was, I'm still a little excited, but the whole "Ripley's Daughter" idea makes me wonder what other dumb ideas they are shoehorning into this.

I do like Summer Glau a great deal, though.

I’m not convinced by the whole Ripleys Daughter idea in the new Alien game. I don’t see what credible reason there could be for her to encounter the Alien. It's either a spectacular coincidence or I suppose Weyland Yutani could ‘arrange’ for her to to be involved, but to what end? There is nothing inherently special about Ripley that makes her offspring beneficial to the company’s interest in procuring a sample of the Alien. In fact if the game is taking place between Alien and Aliens then as far as Weyland Yutani are concerned Ripley is simply a dead member of the Nostromos crew.

It’ll be interesting to see what the games makers come up with, but it I’m scpectical.

No she wouldnt... Glau is way to cute looking to be taken serious.

Winona Ryder as Call, would have been a more belivable replacment, shame that the Movie was way way into the future and the Movie was horrible.

Daughter of Ripley, now thats really scraping the bottom side of the barrel of contrivance, if post alien3 we are far into the sucky future of the Alien franchise with Hybrid Queipley and pre Alien3 she whouldnt have time to start up Another family, ignoring the trauma of everyone she knows being dead.. Why not Cyborg Zombie Newt, Michel Beihn could reprise his role as Robotic Kyle Reese.

The thing is we know how "tricksey" Wayland can be so no real reason why a story couldn't involve Ripley's daughter. She grows up wondering what happened to her mum and Weyland have been keeping an eye on her. Weyland also know that they diverted the Nostromo to pick up the Xeno, so not too much of a stretch to tie it all up.

Yes, until she died, without ever meeting a xenomorph. Canonically, if she encountered one, WT would have already known what Xenomorphs were prior to the events if Aliens. See how this is super problematic both in the upcoming game and in any hypothetical expansion?

They are great characters even if the movies have rarely done them justice, time to move on and do something new in that universe.
