Lorgar goes to Cadia and charts the Eye of Terror like its an unknown phenomena on the far edges of space. But, this makes no sense. Both Caliban and the homeworld of the Iron Hands are really close to the Eye of Terror. Its hard to believe they could have been unaware of the Eye or that Lorgar could have really been that far away at all.

I would argue that the eye is neither in nor out of reality, that others sensed it but did not know what to call it (or refused to call it anything), and that you are thinking linearly. The X and Y coordinates might be near, but not necessarily the Z coordinate.

"Close" is a relative term in Space. "Close" in Space could be hundreds of light-years, and that distance is further compounded by the fact that space does not exist on a 2-D plane. You can go up, down, side to side, in any direction.
Combine those two factors with how slow warp travel is (it takes on average years of warp travel across even a fraction of the Galaxy), and you have a situation in which huge swathes of the Galaxy are untraveled- even a system's backyard.

Medusa and Caliban are behind the Eye though. Cadia is actually closer to Terra. In order for that area to have been uncharted it would have to have meant the Great Crusade went completely around that area (with more than a years travel between Cadia and any imperial forces) and looped around the eye to find those two primarchs. Also the map I linked is actually quite small. Istvaan for instance is much further away than the eye. Almost on the galaxies edge.
IMO its purely writers license to lend a sense of mystery and the unknown to Lorgars Pilgrimage.

Right, and my point about how unimaginably vast Space is in every direction, is that that isn't an unrealistic possibility at all. Because Space exists on a non 2-dimensional plane, you could have two systems a hundred light-years from each other with a completely undiscovered system in between the two of them.

Light takes time to travel. When we look at the sky, we're looking thousands to billions to years in the past, that's why people dint see it, they can still see the Eldar home planets.

Think of what the Eye of Terror is. Why would the Imperium go into an area of space where the Warp spills over? Even when they did not believe in the existence of the Ruinous Powers the fact that the Warp is dangerous would be known.
Besides, there would be no human civilisations to assimilate amid the ruins of the Eldar Empire; which was after all what the Great Crusade was primarily about.

Spoilers for Angel Exterminatus
Apparently Perturabo and Ferrus Manus could both "see" the Eye of Terror from the very moment of sentience. The backstory of both is briefly discussed in the books and both are shown to know of its prescene across the galaxy. Perturabo even approaches Ferrus on the subject but Manus waves it off as unimportant.
As for it being undiscovered, when Perturabo arrives he names it Eye of Terror due to thinking of it as a great eye, watching him.

I don't recall Ferrus Mannus being able to see the eye as well. I recall Perturabo being able to see it, confiding in Ferrus that he could see it and Ferrus basically being like "get away from me you freak!"

That is how I remember it!... When a previous poster brought up light and how it travelled it made me wonder if, given enough time, light from the Eye Of Terror will reach Terra?

I would've assumed this would've happened already therefore something is blocking it.

I might have to read it again. I only read that chapter a few days ago, but I don't think it went like that. I will double check it though.
