Right then, this came up in a game the other day and I *think* I did it right (or was able to do it in the first place)...

Butcher3 is going on his assassination run. He charges a Paladin of the Wall and kills him no problem. He then casts Impending Doom (side note, I hate Lamentation. This really was do or die) and pulls in pKreoss who currently has his back to Butcher3 as had just finished kicking in Behemoth who had previously attempted to trample him and Vilmon and his buddies.

Now, can you have something go "Directly Towards" you when it has its back to you? I didn't think anything of it in the game but afterwards I wondered if what I'd done was a legal move.

Thanks in advance.

Yep. Facing doesn't matter for pushes, and if something would cause an advance directly towards something else their facing simply changes.

So pKreoss should have been turned around after the push?

No his facing stays the same, that answer is badly worded because he has answered the alternate case in the same sentence (i.e what happens if you were pushed directly towards and what happens when you advance directly towards).
The easiest way to look at this is that there is a distinction in this game in between 'advancing' and 'movement'. Advancing allows you to change your facing (as do place effects) as long as you are the one in control of the model (so if they have a spell/ability which lets them take control of your model and make an advance then they determine facing). Impending Doom is a push effect, which causes movement but is not an advance so it would not change the facing of any models. However you still would not have got the back strike bonus unless he started with his back to you anyway.
Its also worth noting that models that are knocked down can move in some cases - you can't slam a KD model but you can push/pull it (because it is being moved, not advancing).

The way im facing has nothing to do with what direction something is pulling me.

That's not quite true. Place effects allow the model's facing to be determined by the player doing the placing, regardless of who controls/owns the model.

Sometimes models are placed in a new location as a result
of an ability or spell. When a model is placed it is not
considered to have moved or advanced. Because the model
is not considered to have advanced it cannot be targeted by
free strikes. There must be room for the model’s base in the
location the model is placed. A model cannot be placed in
impassable terrain or with its base overlapping an obstacle,
an obstruction, or another model’s base. The player placing
the model chooses its facing.
