Greetings,
I wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I have been playing
40k since 1998. My first army was Catachans in third edition. I had about 100 guardsmen and 3 leman russ tanks. I managed to sit down and get it all painted but the painting was pretty shoddy. Many of these models were given to a friend and live on in various forms here:

4th edition I moved on to do an mech tau army. They were pretty much just basecoated green with some small details picked out here an there. My army list was roughly 24 firewarriors, 2 hammerheads, a skyray, 5 crisis suits, and about 40 kroot. Tragically, (and being a stupid 18 year old at the time) my car was broken into one night while I was staying at a girlfriends house and the army was stolen out of my trunk.
Nonetheless, I moved onto doing a tyranid army. I think it is around 96 models. In 4th edition I used to run 48 hormagaunts and 36 spine gaunts in additions to a hive tyrant, carnifexes, warriors, and zoanthropes. Those were some of my favorite games of
40k to play. I used to play against thousands sons, plauge marines, cadians, and salamanders. I quit playing warhammer for several years when 5th edition came out. I still consider that rendition one of the worst set of rules for games workshop.
During my hiatus from
40k, I spent several years playing necromunda campaigns with two friends. I have a ratskin and a cawdor gang. If you haven't played necromunda, I highly recommend hunting down a bunch of models on ebay while you can. It is the best table top game in my opinion. My ratskin gang is my personal favorite. I spent several hundred dollars hunting down all the original (2nd edition era) models on ebay. I painted them with rather drab colors but I still think they are some of the best looking models I've done. They are a ton of fun to play because they are always the underdog against house gangs. In our longstanding campaign my ratskins (the Slag Spirits) ended up all being around
BS 5 or 6 with many of them being able to sprint. Great fun.
Around the time 6th edition came about my friend started pleading with me to start up
40k again. I was still pretty burned by 5th edition and stubbornly refused to consider it. One night (after several beers) I was talking to my friend about how I missed playing mech tau. A few weeks later he bought a lot of about 600 dollars worth of tau from a guy on Dakka Dakka. He was able to buy the army for 250$. Needless to say, I ended up buying the models from him and got back into
40k for 6th edition. I finished the army over the summer. I've only played them against my friends Tallarn army. It's pretty cool because we have modeled the armies to be adversarial to each other and we have a desert themed board at my house. We try to keep the game friendly but Tau can feel a little heavy handed at times, especially with markerlights and missilesides. Although, we played some good close games in 6th edition. We haven't had a chance to play a 7th edition game yet, but I have really enjoyed the mission scenarios and objectives for 6/7th edition. It's been a decent time to play to
40k, even though some of the new models have been laughably terrible.
Anyways, I came here because I wanted to do a log for my current project. Despite being into
GW products since 1998, I have surprisingly never touched a space marine model. After I finished a good 1500 points worth of Tau this summer I decided to give marines a shot. I wanted to do something that I could take a bit of ownership in without doing some corny homebrew chapter. I ended up settling with the Marauders chapter. I love their chapter emblem and I wanted to challenge myself to try and do a brighter paint scheme. Prior to now I have always stuck to easy paints such a dark earthy tones. Bright yellow has been a real challenge. I also liked the fact that they are white scars successors and they have little in terms of established backstory. It gives me room to do what I want while still sticking with an official chapter. I started up in september and I have about 5 tactical marines done. I plan on sticking to the basics such as bikes and landspeeders. No fancy flying landraiders or centurions.
Anyways, that's is my intro folks
Look for my project log in the future.
