I am writing the background for my chapter for a Deathwatch campaign and cause I love the fluff and want to create a story for my own chapter.

Whenever I look up the fate or possible return of Ferrus Manus the posts are filled with "HE IS DEAD! His head was cut off no one could survive that!" (Vulkan did). There is a story of a chaos marine having his block knocked off and survived after having his head returned to his body shortly after. (I don't know the exact specifics to this, as much as I hate making claims without concrete evidence). I also know ferrus's head was taken by Horus to add to his throne.

I do not believe that he had a "Fail safe" in place for such a outcome as he is remarked as one of the most resilient primarchs and I don't think Failure was a option ever for him (he would rather stay dead then face failure).

I do not believe a new head was constructed for him either. If a new head was created it would just be a robot with Ferrus's body attached to it. Unless somehow his spirit was attached to the body.

I believe if he came back it would not be his choice and it would not be so easy.

I believe it would have something to do with the living metal that has encased his arms. like in my story I wrote for my chapter.

Sorry for the big block of text, hard to explain in short so I am just putting a summary of the events.

For my story involving my Astartes chapter "The Phoenix Guard" they fanatically search for the primarchs of the Ivatsan Massacre (they are a mix of the three surviving legions originally formed by salamander Pyre Guard comander Artellus Numeon). On their search for their leaders they hear a rumor of a great being on a nearby planet capable of amazing feats. Upon hearing this they speed towards the planet in hopes of being reunited with a lost primarch. When they arrive they are faced with the forces of chaos also searching for the being. After a short but brutal engagement the Phoenix guard are victorious.

Unable to find the being on this death world (the reason for it being a death world: it is one one Largest planets in the galaxy 100 times the size of earth with many suns and moons. The Planet also has billions of species of dangerous but vibrant wildlife some the size of imperial frigates). The Phoenix Guard claim this as their homeworld setting up wildlife detouring beacons. After a lengthy search no being is found for 20 years until one day a scout squad and its officer find a strange cave radiating energy. Upon entering the cave they find a reptilian creature capable of speech and sorcery. Initially hostel, the scouts attempt to capture the beast, however the beast seems unwilling to fight or hurt the scouts. (Old One)

Chief Librarian of the Phoenix Guard , brother Apollo speaks alone with the creature for two weeks without eating, sleeping or moving from his spot. Once he returns from the cave he is fanatical with the knowledge he has learned and rushes to the Pyre Tower. He locks himself in the tower for a week before emerging. His Face Grimm with despair. A Creature of nightmare approaches.

Basically long story short, it is the void dragon C'tan, it draws closer and closer to the galaxy until it happens upon the home world of the Phoenix Guard while searching for the old one. With the aid of two chapters and 5 Imperial Guard Regiments They meet it in space, unable to beat it with conventional weapons and millions of imperial lives are lost. Librarian Appolo chances a psychic blast with frustration. The colossal beast reels from explosion (C'tan are weak to the warp). Appollo summons all the Librarians and imperial personnel to his bridge. Using their collective psychic might, they tear a hole in reality open (think Tiny eye of terror) inside the beasts chest (unknown to them it was thanks to the aid of the old ones physcic might). The beast shatters into Millions of fragments and is scattered into space. Most of the psykers die except for a handful of librarians. Two beings on Mars stir.

Quicksilver runs along his arms, across his chest where skin used to be, rebuilding what once was, his knees buckle, his muscles strain. He raises screaming into the darkness. He is alone. He tries to stand, his feet touch the cold metal floor, his arms recede, metal flowing back in their direction, pooling. He stumbles forward his strength not yet returned to him. He hears a roar and the room shakes. His strength suddenly rushes through him, his heart races he pulls the bulk head off its hinges. A serf moving down the hallway collapsed in fright only to be reduced to tears of joy, "Ferrus Manus has returned!" the man cried. Returned he wondered? What happened to him? where had he gone?

Another roar, the serf jumped to his feet in fright. His questions would have to wait. "What is that?" asked Ferrus.

"The Dragon of Mars is loose, it creeps these very hallways, run while you still can!" He started into a sprint heading down the hallway.

Ferrus hears the scraping of claws on metal in the hallway behind him. He turns to see a beast of immense size. Ferrus flexes his enormous muscles, he bellows a terrifying roar that seems to even catch the beast off guard, he slams into the best and a battle of life and death begins.

After a long and fierce combat Ferrus Kills the Dragon of Mars by drowning him in the foundry with molten magma just like he did back on Medusa so long ago.

Well first off, the exact events the transpired in the duel between Ferrus and Fulgrim are vague and varied between sources. Some say Fulgrim presented his head to horus as a trophy, others say the mechanicum may have taken his remains in order to create their own legion using his genetics. What is clear is that he is dead. And since there is no evidence of his remains being preserved, I see no way he could be resurrected.

Secondly, the Iron Hands see Ferrus as a failure due to his defeat, thus having no desire to attempt resurrecting him.

Finally, the statement about Vulkan you made is true. Yes, he survived being decapitated, but this is due to him being a perpetuate. He is unable to be truly killed by any weapon or being, spare for a petrified bolt of the Emperor's Psychic lightning called the Fulgerite. He was killed dozens of times before being stabbed by the Fulgerite. And even then, he still may be alive.

Interesting story though, I like it!
