Hello all,

I am new to Warmachine and starting with a few friends. I figure we will get some 35 point lists put together, unless that is too many points for a group of newbs. We have Menoth, Khador, Retribution and my Cygnar. Me and the guy playing Menoth have lots of xp with table top wargaming, the other two on the other hand have little to no table time.

So far I have this in mind

Captain Haley

Squire

Thorn

Ol' Rowdy

Journeyman Warcaster

Hunter

Tempest Mages w/ Mage officer attachment

Half unit of Sword Knights

It feels good on paper since I have Mages with True sight and the Sword Knights work with Ol' Rowdy and Thorn in cc. Thorn works with Haley and the squire gives her extra tokens for Ol' Rowdy and spells.

C & C welcome. Help me get these Cygnar on the battle field .

My worries here:

PHaley doesn't actually have enough offensive spells to justify the cost of Thorn, you'd be better off with a normal Lancer. She also seems to want to hold onto enough of her Focus that I'd be skeptical about running a primary melee 'Jack in her battlegroup, you might want to put Ol' Rowdy somewhere else.

A small unit of Sword Knights with no UA seems to miss out on the point of Sword Knights (they're cheap, tough, can clog up charge lanes, and can put out some damage where they've got a warjack with them, but if you take a minimum unit with no UA you lose space control and damage), and PHaley doesn't have a lot of support for them.

Junior seems redundant with PHaley already having Arcane Shield, and you're not running a lot of good Arcane Shield targets in the first place. If you're just looking for the extra Focus to run another heavy I prefer Jakes to the normal Journeyman, she synergizes better with the 'Jack and can do more damage on her own for the same price. It's almost always better to have one of Def/Arm very high than to have both sort of mid-range, you don't have much here that already has high Arm to stick AS on.

I'm still learning Cygnar and I have a lot more practice with EHaley than PHaley so take all this with a grain of salt and further commenters may disagree with me; I'd start with a Lancer as PHaley's entire battlegroup, give Jakes or a Journeyman a heavy with a big gun, marshal a Hunter to a Gun Mages unit, and then fill out your ranks with stuff that doesn't need support and/or stuff that has guns and melee (I'm a fan of Stormblades). Focus on using Temporal Barrier to keep the other guy out of your hair while you wreck him with your guns, Haley doesn't help you much with melee damage output or getting your folks in, but she helps a lot with gunfire. It probably won't work against any crazy tricks that can get things into melee with you from outside your control area but those aren't common.

The Squire is a great choice for almost any Cygnar warcaster, the Hunter/ATGM combo is my favourite thing in faction. You may look into the Black 13th, Aiyanna&Holt, and Taryn, they're all good ranged support units that let you shoot more things and do more damage to them.

Cool, thanks for the tips.

The only things ive bought so far are some long gunners, the tempest mages and the hunter so I will look into some of those other units.
