So I am using the 40k roleplay rules for a scifi game I am running and I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on how to blend Only War, Rogue Trader, and Dark Herasy balance wise together if that is even possible. I don't think I can pull off DH with the others but the Rogue trader and Only War seem close enough to set up a officer soldier sort of balance.

Balance-wise it'd be a case of trial and error. Just remember the relative power scales: Rogue Trader characters are likely to be more powerful than Guardsmen, who are in turn likely to be slightly more powerful (and certainly better equipped) than Acolytes.

As far as mixing them though, yeah, they all use the same rules base, with each game being a better refined rendition of the last. I'd use the Only War combat rules* over DH1.0 and Rogue Traders, just 'cause they're the latest version.

What sort of game are you setting up?

*Full Disclosure: I wrote the combat rules in OW, but as I said, I'm recommending them because they are the newest.

I am planning on running as said a scifi game in a setting of my own making. The current campaign is set on the frontier of the setting in a fire fly/ star craft kind of find loot/explore/set up colonies kind of game, the plan is too split the characters between the rules depending on their role. The captain, first officer and other command elements will have characters out of the rogue trader book, while the on the ground/crewmen types will have characters out of only war. At least that is the plan
