Subject: Jump pack or Jet pack?

A couple of my buddies and I like to play some other games, one of them being Battletech, and we were discussing about adding "Jump jet" like device to a standard dreadnought. Of course this would not be a free upgrade. it would have to be purchased. We talked about the range of 25-30 points. The only thing we could not decide on is should it be a jet pack move or a jump pack? Personally I'm for Jet pack. This way I could jump my range dreads after they are done shooting. We, also, talked about making the jet pack 25pts and the jump pack 30pts. This way the options are open to the players.
If a dread was to have a jet pack, we talked about limiting its fire power on the following turn. For example, If i have a dreadnought that has the jet pack and Missile launcher and Assault Cannon, after I jump I could only fire the missile launcher or the assault cannon. We contribute that to the dread landing then bring a gun to firing position.
Thoughts?

Purely aesthetically, I like the idea of a jump dread more than a jet dread. Jetpackers are meant to be relatively graceful, weaving in and out of cover gracefully. This doesn't exactly scream dreadnaught to me. On the other hand, a dread being hurtled forward by an oversized set of rockets? That seems appropriate.
For a jetpack walke, I see something more like jet sentinels. That's sort of how I envisioned the sentinels in the Fire Caste novel working, and it seems more appropriate for their relatively slender builds and mobile battlefield role.

ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

So you're basically asking to make a dreadnought be more like a riptide.... I approve!
But definitely jump pack, much more along the lines of what the Imperium would use.

Yeah, especially if you're going for the Battletech-vibe, jump packs are far more in keeping with the RoC and imagery.

Jump pack dreads sounds like the way to go. Now how much in points should you spend to give a dreadnought a jump pack? I was thinking 25pts.

A jump Dread's HoW would have to get a massive buff too ( IMO), maybe instant death on a 4/5+? (I don't think you could survive a massive walker with a rock it up its coming right for you).

Nobody else gets realistic HoW, so why would dreadnoughts?

lol. OK, so if you get that, lets give AP2 to every HoW model with Smash, ok? And let people use their weapons on HoW too, since nobody with a sword in hand is going to voluntarily body-check an armed opponent on the way in.

And let's let Crisis suits better resemble the fluff; instead of getting charged, they become fliers as they fly vertically away!
