Right, I am still fairly new to Malifaux but I am enjoying it immensely. I decided to start with the Gremlins and a back-up of Guild. So went with what I know best. Shooty Shooty. So chose to go Ophelia.

I have gotten my head around some of the advantages of Gremlins (there size, unusual summoning methods to drop pigs and bayou gremlins everywhere and so on). What I am struggling to do is counter crews that use terrifying. My main tactic has been cheating in to win terrifying duels. The problem is this leaves me short for when I want to use Ophelia's Rough Riders. Another tactic has been to ignore them and focus on schemes, but sooner or later I need to deal with something trying to eat one of my Gremlins.

I have both Wong and Semus to try out, but wanted to stick with what I know before expanding into even more tricksy playstyles.

That's how terrifying works for pretty much all crews: you either get lucky with the flip, or more likely, you cheat in some mid-level card. Nothing particular about gremlins there, unfortunately. You've got the right strategy for it, though. Just focus on schemes and strats, deal with the terrifying models if you have to, and carry on with your plans.

Also, just remember that a model only has to take one terrifying duel per activation; they will be immune to horror duels for the rest of that activation.

Down the Hatch (or whatever +2 WP to minions is called) and Bayou Two-card makes your odds of success without cheating from your hand roughly equivalent to +4 WP. This won't cover all of your models, but you can send the ones that aren't after non-terrifying stuff. I just ran a somer swarm against Pandora with a bunch of WP shenanigans and think I failed less than a half-dozen WP tests in the game.

...Or just pick elite pieces with high WP and be ready to cheat the difference.

Thanks for the advice.

Next time I face a Terrifying crew I will give Sommer and the Bayou Gremlins a try. I know they get the Bayou Two-Card.

I also need to remember that the Gremlins are one of the more expendable crews around.

This. One of the great things about Malifaux is even if you don't have a good counter to a game element on the table, you can work around it with good tactics. Gremlins are cheap, sacrifice them whenever you feel like you need a laugh.

I tried the Taxidermist and Stuffed Pigs for the first time at the weekend. That's when I realised I had other options for mitigating Terrifying (in some instances). Stuffed Piglets are undead so don't need to take Terrifying (Living) tests.

Plus the Pigapult has a Wp of 10 which meant that it is (almost) an autopass for a few of the terrifying creatures and good odds against most other things.

I am also tempted to use a Pigapult/Taxidermist combo to launch stuffed piglets into clusters of creatures (not as ammo) and then have Wong target the Stuffed Piglet and cheat in to get Fzzap on the Lightning Jump. No terrifying duels required at all.

Now you're getting it!

P.S. Add Killjoy to lose friends.

Heh, what a ridiculous piece. I feel bad playing Killjoy with anyone with a fast delivery system... to the point where I don't even consider taking him unless I'm playing a competitive/A-game situation.

I laugh at your silly little Killjoy. Once you know how to deal with him, he's annoying at worst.

Eh, I play in a meta with a fair number of new players, so I'd rather they don't get that discouraged, since I already have a bunch of tricks up my sleeve without the giant undead beat stick eating 10 points and then gumming up their line.

I've run into the same problem with my belles. At first they look way too good, but once you understand how the game work they cease to be so. First order optimal strategies are important, I usually point the newbies to them so they can get their feet on solid ground before the tide hits.

Another game last night. This time vs Mei-Fang being run as an Arcanist. The guy I was playing is an ex-tournament player. Frankly I got taken apart.

He ran two Metal Gamin that focused on my Pigapult, so by the fourth turn it was dead. A lot of that was my fault as well. I had moved Lenny off to deal with some other issues and had moved the slop-hauler away as well. So now Bacon Load or Feed the Piggies to help recover wounds on the Pigapult.

The other problem was that I had to throw the Pigapult into an area with Line of Sight. This was to launch crew members. But it also meant the Metal Gamin had line of site for the Magnetism skill.

My main concellation was that I got 1VP with Murder Protege because Lenny was Glowy so could ignore all the defenses of the Rail Golem.

Learnt an awful lot with this game last night. Especially about positioning. Oh and also to remember that you where also running the Bodyguard scheme and I should really move the guy who is the Bodyguard away from the deployment zone.

Yeah, that bodyguard thing is a lesson we all learn the hard way. Scheme specifics are a big key to victory.

Glad to hear you got some good experiences in!
