While lacking the charisma of Horus, I could see the possibility of Perturabo being the architect of the heresy. Along the same lines as other recent threads, I pose two questions
1. How feasible would it be to consider Perturabo as warmaster, or arch heretic, and executor of the heresy barring him being warmaster?
2. If that premise is sound, what would have been done differently In your opinion?
My answer:
1. I think that with the support of the right Primarchs, such as fulgrim, Leman Russ ( although I’m not sure how he would secure Russ’ support) or possibly even The Kahn, he could muster the legions necessary to mount a successful coup. I also think it feasibly based on the fact, that if he pulled his iron warriors from the garrisons, it would either create a power vacuum that other legions would have to fill or start rebellions that they would have to go fight, which would weaken the overall defenses. And the fact that Perty was one of the most intelligent, strategically minded, and skilled Primarchs at the long dirty warfare that would be needed to really and truly take Terra, not just attack it.
2. I think the heresy would have been different in that once perturabo had consolidated his forces, and made pacts with mars, as Horus did, his reputation, techno aptitude, he would have brought more of the mechanicus into the fold. That combined with his knowledge of siege warfare, and his willingness to spend ever life and resource at his disposal to achieve his goals would mean that he would have made for mars, and camped out, laying siege to Terra and grinding it down. Idk if he would win but it would have been a long and bloody battle with no real winner. It wouldn't have been as flashy or dramatic, but I think it would have been more effective.
What do you think?
