Looking to start watching a new series.

Anyone have recommendations on whether I should start with Arrow, Gotham, Daredevil, or any other similar suggestions?

Thanks!

Of those three, Daredevil is undoubtedly the best in my eyes. Brilliant in terms of acting, writing and directing, and barely any wasted time; every scene matters, every line adds something to the show.

Gotham I tried watching, but found it too slow to get going after about 5 episodes so I gave up. Apparently it has now picked up a bit, but to me it suffered from trying to be a Batman show without Batman, and ended up a run of the mill cop drama.

Arrow is good, not quite as awesome as Daredevil but enjoyable enough. There is a lot to get through if you've not seen any before, so it'll keep you going for a while. I'd also add that I watched it with only a very vague knowledge of the DC comics, and didn't feel I was missing anything important in the show.

It's not very similar to the above, but the BBC series The Musketeers is well worth watching if you haven't, in 2 series there hasn't been a bad episode.

Daredevil. It gaks on the head of the other two, and I actually like Arrow.

I think Gotham, aside from the acting of the dude playing Penguin, is awful.

I disliked Arrow so much that it put me right off even watching through until it's supposed to get better. Not tried Gotham. Daredevil is amazing and you should watch it now.

As in, right now. This second.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Daredevil is awesome. I lost interest in Gotham. The acting and dialogue are mostly dreadful, and I say this a guy who loved whatsisname when he was in Southland.

Honestly, if you're gonna watch Arrow you should watch Flash too, there's quite a few cross over episodes and it's taking place in the same world.

Daredevil. Rather dark, very human hero, outstanding visuals. More like a realistic super hero movie...well...mostly. 3 episodes in.

Finally! Wife and I both think the same. We just don't understand how people love Gotham so much...the writing just isn't good more often than not.

Daredevil is best. Especially because it is part of the broader cinematic universe.

Arrow is also good. And with flash they are building a neat little dc verse too. Unfortunately is has nothing to do with their up coming cinematic universe... So... Great.

Gotham is trash.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Gotham is not doing much but how can it? I say to watch arrow and flash and catch up then binge daredevil. Daredevil can be slow and real violent so no children please.

Arrow is cool if you just tune in and see Deathstroke or other characters, but sitting down and watching an episode is friggin tedious. Every bit of it feels like 'poor version of batman can't keep a secret'.

Gotham had so many bad things said about from Batman fans that I passed on it. Too many names in what should be a prequel before batman is even a thing.

Daredevil though... I like that one. Same 'universe' as the rest of the Marvel movies and shows with references to the New York fight in Avengers. Seen two episodes now but it's enjoyable. Nice and calm at times, which I do like in a show. Sets its own pace instead of rushing into things.

In order of quality (in my opinion), your choices are Gotham, Daredevil, and Arrow. Depending on your preferences the first two are both good. If you like angsty young adult drama tinged with the most obnoxious degree of political commentary you can imagine, you might also enjoy Arrow.

Gotham just doesn't seem to be going anywhere, storywise. Arrow is okay, but the retcons related to his time on the island are driving me crazy. You didn't list it, but The Flash is good fun to watch. As others have already said, Daredevil is awesome storytelling and character study.

Daredevil for sure. Arrow is good through the end of Season 2. Season 3 is not as good. Gotham suffers from the same problems as Agent of Shield. A great idea for a show, decent acting, but the the show constantly promises cool stuff and never really delivers. It just meanders around it's setting with a distinct lack of direction.

Only watched Arrow but I love it. You really get attached to the characters and each episode's drip feed of backstory and cliffhangers leaves me dying for the next one. It also has a host of other DC characters involved. Minor heroes, alongside many many villains. No General Zod or Joker but the smaller heroes are very prominent. Also, the spin-off parrallel series of Flash is decent too. Second favourite show behind Game of Thrones. If you watch it, don't watch Flash until season 3, as some episodes of Flash crossover with Arrow and will spoil some stuff.

Gotham, I haven't seen, but looks like your average crime drama, procedural or otherwise, only set in Gotham City. Meh.

Daredevil, don't have netflix, but had a recommendation today from a man who hates Marvel and hasn't watched a TV series since 1992, and loves it. Says its surprisingly dark and gritty and very very brutal. So might take a free trial and binge over June myself.

Yep. The most brutal fight choreography in the MCU yet, very dark (visually as well as tonally, the set work and directing are so well thought out), and it earns the 15 certificate without ever being gratuitous. There's not a fight in there that isn't important, and Daredevil taking on just one or two guys can be as tense as him working through whole mobs. Watch it, you won't be disappointed!

Okay. I just started watching episode 20 of Gotham. This series is starting to piss me off. Given the way they've developed Bruce Wayne in this series, there is no effing way in hell he goes on to become Batman. I've never seen such a whiny little fether in all my life. He's closer to that Sweetrobin character from Game of Thrones than the boy who becomes the Dark Knight.

The biggest problem for me is kind of the same thing - they've got Bruce 'too young' in this series.

And all of his main villains are going to be 15 to 20 years older than him?

Slight digression off my own OT but related:

Anyone tried Agents of Shield or Constantine?

I like Agents of SHIELD a lot, but the general concensus is less positive. Personally, I think it's great on its own, especially the last half of the first series which deals with the fallout of Cap 2.

Your mileage may vary, but I love it.

Constantine is real good. Shield is weak but better than Gotham.

I really enjoy Shield from the second half of the first season to present.

Constantine was solid. Wife liked it more than I did but it might not be renewed and leaves off on want more note.

Personally it'd go Flash, Shield, Dare Devil, Arrow, and distantly last Gotham. But I like slightly more upbeat in general for my binge watching. if Dare Devil were a week to week it'd be the best of the bunch by a long shot.
