Since it's Friday how about a light topic to take us away from political controversy.
I don't have a boat, but here is a pic of whaleboat Molly under sail. I row in Molly most Wednesday nights, helping to keep Henley-on-Thames safe from the menace of whales.
What boats do you guys mess around in and why?

I have no boat, sadly.
But the lake near me rents canoes and stand up paddle boards.
Loads of fun!

I used to be a single sail dingy sailor so it seems to me your one of those elitist champagne yachtists
I joke, sailing is awesome. I'm glad others enjoy the pure bliss that is sailing , whilst also knowing the fear that exists when seeing a green cloudbank roll towards you whilst in a dingy. Scariest thing I've ever been in, broken mast and boats still "racing" going past you by 1 or 2 foot at god knows how fast.

Sorry Iron captian I misstook your post. I'm still leaving my post up as testament to the floating house brick or "heron" class as it was also referred to.
it's not looking like this is it iron captain?
I spent a lot of my early years (from 6 onwards) racing those boats on a Saturday. I still don't know why a combination of racing and sailing turns people into animals but i always used to cop a belt if i didn't get the small spinnaker up. (dad was normal off the water thank god
Racing in dingies always seemed very fractious.

On the note of small boats, if you thought the Heron was small, you should try the Optimist. Bath tubs will never feel small again!

I got my pilots license at the age of 14. And piloted my 19ft Falklands Fisher boat across the Bristol Channel in terrible weather. Almost died after being pounded by nasty swells but I made it alive!
I miss that old boat.

i was a Royal Navy Cadet. Never owned a boat but have some sailing experience, spent time at sea in gak weather on a small MV, which I was navigating.
Best of all was visiting a squadron on light exercise at sea by helicopter over a long weekend. Was on the Grey Rover, a naval support ship in mid convoy.
Fun times, never forget the trip.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. |

Used to be a Sea Scout and got a good bit of sailing done on the open water in Rosslare Harbour. Lovely way to spend time.
Used to work on my uncle's lobster boat the odd time too, which was hard work and I wasn't that useful, but really satisfying all the same. Still pop out in the smaller boats for a bit of fishing every now and then.
The only boat I've ever owned myself was a very battered and beat up 70s general purpose kayak made of fibreglass, which was about 60% patch by the time I moved away from home

There is an old saying that the two happiest days in an owner's life are the day you buy it and the day you sell it.
However if I won the lottery I would love to buy something like this:
Good for river and coastal cruising. Can cross the Channel and did so as a Dunkirk Little Ship. It's got history, character and enough space for weekend trips if you don't mind slumming it a bit. My wife would hate it.

I don't have a picture of mine to share right now. 15' bass boat, purchased it from my Grandfather after my last deployment.
Lot of good memories with that boat. I need to upgrade its engine. Doesn't have as much power as I'd like.
