I'm sure they'll remain; I anticipate AoS having a similar overall scope to 40k, where 'small' minis like Guardsmen, Orks, Nids ect still make their presence felt. At a guess, you'll be looking at 3-10 model units for more elite armies like Elves, Sigmarites or Dwarves, and up to 30 minis in a unit for the likes of Goblins, Clanrats, State Troops ect. Still smaller in numbers than the previous incarnation, but large relative to the rest of the game.

The box only having a 4 page rulebook is really throwing me off.
Will AoS have a full skirmish ruleset? Or will it just be how you use this box before the proper 9th book is released?

My guess is the later!
And If the little guys are still hanging around, do you think GW will bother to re-sculpt them? Recently their WHFB stuff has all been about the big kits or elite troops (largely because all armies got their core done in 7th).

I'm going to guess that the little guys will feature only peripherally in AoS. AoS will be about small companies bashing it out, and the stunties will be too small to compete in that arena.
For the mass combat game (that I'm really, really hoping will follow AoS), I'd guess that the stunty hordes will still have a place, however marginal.

It's a good question, because due to the 'sudden death' element to the rules there's no reason at all to take the little guys.
Imagine turning up with 20 goblins when your opponent has 25 chaos warriors. You're outnumbered by a superior troop and don't even get the sudden death option unless you deploy very few models

It depends on how "superior" the warriors are. With the removal of Initiative as a stat, and looking at the Warscroll on the Blood Warriors, who knows how superior will they be. Goblins could get some crazy rule that makes them harder to hit due to being small, or having poison and on your turn they'd attack before the warriors. It completely depends on the rules they get from the warscrolls. You need to take Str vs Toughness, Initiative and WS out of the equation, which are the stats where WoC had the advantage
Another interesting fact is that the shielded sigmarines don't have a 3+ save, even with the shields they have 4+, will this be the fate of shielded warriors?

I think the little guys will be a great help in dealing with elites because elites will kill a few then will likly get demolished by sheer number of attacks back as the owner removes casulties italso allows weak ranged units to hammer them in shooting as well. Remember so far theres no sign of modifiers to hit or wound so sheer numbers should work.
yes sudden death is there but you know what it is so you could concentrate on dening it so id say a large unit of little dudes could work.

We've seen Warscrolls. Units are either "1 model and 1 model only" or "1 to infinity models".
