So I guess I can't play age of sigmar. Now GW expects us to damage our paint jobs to play their game. I have seen far better bases out there and I would be pissed if some kid moved his old metal demon prince on top of my nice bases and broke them.

What the hell are they thinking?

I know nothing about AoS. Why would playing it hurt a base? I heard the rules said you could use any base, so? Rules say to stack them or something?

To attack you have to be within half an inch of the model, not the base. Source is from some who somehow have the starter set already and have posted pics. Store owners with advanced copies maybe.

so how does this lead to someone crushing your base? Are you playing in a vacuum space full of blithering insensitive idiots who would blindly destroy other's models because the rules say it's to the model not the base? Are you using GIANT oversized bases that prevent these attacks from happening when base to base?

In other words, not meaning to attack you if it comes off this way. This is the dumbest thing I've heard yet, apply common sense.

Edit: Also it's an inch, not half an inch, the full rules are up.

I am sure someone in a competitive tournament for prizes would make that argument. And since that happens frequently in my area I don't appreciate when others come in and basically tell you it could never happen that way ever because reasons, in an insulting tone, while someone else thinks for some reason being condasending is worthy of praising said post.

Then when they try the argument, just tell them "put it base to base and we'll say it counts."

I suppose if they came right out and said that you had to move into a 1/2" melee range, and count the base for measurements it would be too much like the thing they are trying to copy.

Game also has dumb rules, like how for certain units you have to have a beard or mustache to benefit fully from the special rules, and others you have to shout stuff at the top of your lungs to benefit, amongst numerous other ridiculous and stupid rules.

It's dumb, thoughtless, and frankly gives off the impression that they think the only people who play WHFB are misogynist neckbearded manchildren.

Meh, wrong thread, but it's still tangentially related.

And what are they trying to copy?

Warmachine/hordes. The whole thing smells like a huge pandering ripoff, desperate to get back some of the market share they lost. And since it was going under anyway, no big loss if fantasy dosent do it. They were practically putting it out to pasture anyway. This way they can at least experiment to see if they can steal some business back before wasting it.

Everyone plays base to base, even GW staff in GW.

I see a lot of people crying, I like AoS... I have not played warhammer in years and got back mainly because of it....

People need to realize that the power and rules are now with the gamers and not the books (its why it is so simple), if you disagree with something, discuss it with your opponent and work it out.. no more hours wasted arguing like children... and if you cannot agree, do not play together :/

Guys, did you really not notice that page scan from WD saying that you don't have to re-base your miniatures as the bases aren't important? It's in the first post of the AoS rumours thread...

People aren't talking about rebasing, they're talking about stacking bases on bases as bases aren't important.

As in, in order to get within 1/2" my metal daemon prince has to be on your base with tall grass, crushing it...

So basically you're saying "it doesn't matter if you spent a lot of effort in to your miniature's base, ti's not important if it gets destroyed because some TFG tries to follow the rules literally because we said it wasn't!"

Haha, yeah, you nailed it with that image, my bad!

Yes, I totally just did admit that I made a mistake on the internet.

As for the proper point of the discussion, well, I presume that if someone tries to do that instead of just assuming that it works with base well enough I would just tell him to go make love to himself and would smash his miniatures with a stone if he ever attempted it.

Or I could try moving my flyer PAST (as in through) his infantry, breaking his miniatures with conveniently heavy base. I mean, they didn't say it in the rules that I have to move it above his models if they stand in the way, right?

The whole point of playing a game is that it has structure and rules you can follow without arguments, and the reason AoS fails so hard is it's so poorly written and ill defined that you end up ignoring the rules.

And at that point you may as well just play toy soldiers instead.

Gamers like clear well defined rules.
