I would go with 40 round. the reason being is that the feet are not that wide (unless you converted) but in this game I would go with smallest possible. Base size doesn't matter and may only get in the way so smallest possible base which to me seems like a 40mm round Automatically Appended Next Post: Maybe even a 32mm

They're normally on 40mm square bases. Putting them instead on 40mm round bases makes the most sense.

Yeah, stick to the same width as the original bases.
Most bases come in both square and round versions now, at least until you get to chariot-sized and beyond.

I would actually say go up one step and put them on 50mm bases. Those on 20mm square now stands on 25mm round, those on 25mm before now stands on 32mm now. Ogres look better on 50mm than on 40mm...but that's just in my opinion.

Yeh its completely down to aesthetics, rules wise the bases mean absolutely nothing, I put my dwarves on 32mm and the characters on 40mm. I like a larger base as you have more space for pretty basing that I feel really helps a model shine.
