Started basing up Island of Blood Skaven tonight on round bases, and was just curious:

What base size would be good for Warpfire Thrower and Poison Wind Mortar teams?

If you are really looking for bases with rounded edges, you could try the bike bases for 40K. They are basically Cavalry bases in a pill shape with rounded ends, instead of squared off ones. So they would fit just like the square cav bases the models originally went on.

Thanks for the suggestion AegisGrimm. I had a few of those bases laying around, and put the skaven weapon team on them with putty.

For whatever reason, it just looked off to me (the base seemed too long and narrow for the weapon team).

50mm round allowed the team to fit, but looked like too much wasted space.

Did GW ever make smaller oval bases than the ones currently in use? If so, for what model line?

The Skitarii ones sound to be what you want. However, they've not be produced as a standalone product yet.

They also fit ok on the 40mm non beveled (mdf) I use. The mortar fits side by side well, and warp fire thrower fits as is. Look really cool (no pics as they are on painting table) and don't have too much wasted base.

All models on cavalry bases are being put on the Skitarii sniper (small oval) by the design team. I would wait for those to be sold seperately.

Bike bases look like crap imo

I admit, now that I look again at the single bike base I have rolling around my bitz box, they are a helluva lot longer than I remember them. Sorry.
