The boxed liberators rules are a superset of the starter set rules, allowing additional weapon load outs.

In the description is says "... Some units of Liberators are armed with a Warhammer in each hand, while other wield paired Warblades. Other units enter battle armed with a single Warhammer and carry a Sigmarite Shield...."

That means the entire unit must be have the same load out, right (except for the 1 in 5 that is allowed the Grandhammer/blade)?

Followup question...has anyone built the boxed kit and magnetised the arms/weapons/shields?

You are correct. They must all have the same weapons, excepting the 1 in 5 special weapons. Also, if you build the, give the special weapon to the prime. Might as well give the bonus attack to the best weapon.

I'm curious if anyone knows if the extra weapons from the 5-man box can be used on the models in the starter kit. I assume not, but it would be cool if so.

I'm enjoying painting the Liberators. I wish they came with more to a box, 'cause I'd like to paint a whole bunch and not feel guilty the whole time. Ah well.

Judging by the sprue pictures on the site. I would say they probably could with some modification and possible greenstuff. It wouldn't be to hard to just hack off the hammer at the handle and plastic glue whatever weapon you wanted.

The shoulder pads attach to the arms, there's specific arms for the weapons / shields - the shape of the forearm armour means that the weapon 'hands' are just fingers on the weapons. You don't have a flat surface or any room to make one.
Magnetising wouldn't be impossible, but it'd be a total pain in the butt.

I get the slight feeling that this will change soon, as the Primes from the Paladin box do not get any bonus using the Special Weapon, they get a bonus to the standard weapons only. I can see the Primes for the Judicators and Liberators getting amended to only giving a bonus to the standard weapons.

I seriously doubt that will happen. If you look at all the War Scrolls, some "sergeants" get +1 attack to their normal weapon, some get an extra, additional melee weapon, some get +1 to hit, some get +1 to wound, etc, etc.

Liberator "sergeants" get +1 attack. Paladin box Primes also get +1 attack... which doesn't benefit a Starsoul Mace at all since you don't make traditional attacks with it. You simply do d3 mortal wounds to your target with no to hit or to wound roll required. Because of this, it looks like GW specified that the +1 attack only works with a Thunderaxe/Stormstrike Glaive. I guarantee that if they didn't specify the weapon that you'd have people on here arguing that because the Prime gets an extra attack that he should get to do 2D3 mortal wounds when using a Starsoul Mace. GW clarified that this wouldn't be the case by specifying the extra attack only being useful for the weapons that makes actual attacks.

The Retributors don't have a special weapon available. Their Prime gets the +1 attack as normal, but only has the one weapon option.
