Hi Dakka, it's the first time I will try to make a battle report. So, this monday, I will confront a Space Marines list with my own Space Marines list.
I'm curious to know what you think about the two.
This is my friend's one, the "Space Hunters" (I may have forgotten some equipement here and there):
Spoiler:
Space Hunters
Chapter Tactics: Iron Hands.
Captain (jump pack, lightning claw, power fist and gorgon's chain)
Chaplain (terminator armour).
5 assault terminators (3 with thunder hammers) in a land raider redeemer (multimelta)
tac squad (10 marines, plasma cannon, melta, combi-melta) in rhino
tac squad (10 marines, plasma cannon, melta, combi-melta) in rhino
tac squad (10 marines, melta, combi melta, multimelta) in a drop pod
1 vindicator
1 vindicator
assault squad marines (10 marines, jump packs, two flammers, veteran sergeant with power axe)
Stormtalon (skyhammer)
50 wounds, 21hp, 47 models and 7 vehicles
Now my list:
Spoiler:
Iron Storm
Chapter Tactics: Ultramarines
Chaplain (jump pack)
10 sternguard (2 melta, 5 combi-melta, melta bombs, drop pod).
Ironclad (two hunter-killer missiles, one melta, one heavy flammer, ironclad grenades launcher, drop pod)
8 vanguard veterans (jump packs, 4 powers swords, 1 pair of lightnings claws)
10 tac marines (plasma gun, combi plasma, plasma cannon, rhino)
10 tac marines (plasma gun, combi plasma, missiles launcher, rhino)
10 tac marines (flammer, combi flammer, missiles launcher, drop pod with LMD)
Land Speeder Typhoon
Land Speeder Typhoon
Vindicator
Predator (ac, two lascannons)
Thunderfire cannon
52 wounds, 28hp, 50 models and 9 vehicles.
He already played this list, for me, it will be the first time (but I played with some very very close lists).
Why he will win:
-air superiority: I have no flyer, and zero anti aircraft gun, while he has a flyer
- hand to hand superiority: he has more and best hth units, if he catch me he kills me
- he has slightly less KP (14 vs 17)
Why I will win:
-Alpha stike: if he doesn't pay attention, I can make a huge alpha stike with all my melta
-Mobility: land speeders and drop pod assure me to be where I need to be
- I slightly outgun him.
Last time we played, we did a Space Marines scenario from the old expansion "missions de batailles" (battle missions ?), and we ended on a draw (it was a good game !).
It probably won't be a maelstrom of war, because I hate that^^
My main issue is his Hell captain, who can single-handed almost every squad I have and is protected behind his assault squad cannon fodder.
So, let's me know what you think about this matchup !

In seriousness, the non flyer list, a properly done marine alpha strike is brutal
TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum
