This was the 1st battle of a 5 battle campaign between a friend and me.
Our overall Campaign rules are here - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/659504.page

His army is referred to as the Ryzan Forces or (RF) and for this game was made up of:
Spoiler:

Imperial Knight -
(Errant)
Space Marines -
(Chapter Master(Warlord), Vanguard Vets, Tac Marines, Stormraven)
Imperial Guard -
(Stormblade (LOW), Leman Russ Executioner w/ Plasma Cannon sponsons, Armoured Sentinel w/ Plasma Cannon, CCS, Veterans)

Mine is referred to as the Lone Gryphonnes or (LG) and for this game was made up of:
Spoiler:
Imperial Guard -
(CCS (Warlord), Infantry Platoon w/ 2x Infantry Squads 3x Heavy Weapons Squads and 2x Sabre Defence Platforms, 3x Veteran Squads, Basilisk, Deathstrike, 3x Tarantula Sentry Guns)
Inquisition -
(Land Raider Phobos + Storm Bolter Acolytes)
Fortification -
(Void Shield Generator w/ 3 shields)

--------------------------------------------

The Lone Gryphonnes made Planetfall and were beginning to secure their foothold in the city when the Ryzan Forces viciously fell upon them.
(Hammer and Anvil Deployment)

The Ryzan Forces wished to seize, and therefore deny, ammunition caches and supply stashes before the Lone Gryphonnes could make use of them.
The Lone Gryphonnes wished to secure as many caches and stashes as possible because they were now in effect stuck behind enemy lines.
(4 objectives (2 placed by each player) worth 1 VP each)

A power station lay in the centre of the battlefield and would be a significant advantage to any war effort, so both sides wished to control it.
(Critical objective worth 3 VP)

--------------------------------------------

Turn 1 Summary:
Spoiler:
LG front-lines pushed hard (Veteran Squad lost and Land Raider stunned)
RF back-field infantry bombarded (Most of 2x Veteran Squads lost)

State of the board -
RF armour approaching city edge, marines making good head-way in the catacombs.
LG Holding city buildings and streets with veterans going for critical objective.

Turn 2 Summary:
Spoiler:
LG forced to go on the defensive (Land Raider destroyed and the acolytes died inside it too, 2nd Veteran Squad Lost and a Heavy Weapons Squad Lost)
RF takes more bombardment (Last of Veterans lost, Stormblade + Executioner hurt (Deathstrike went off))

State of the board -
RF armour pushing into city, tac marines split into combat squads and 1 squad heads back from catacombs in an attempt to reclaim back-field objectives.
LG bringing support elements back from the front lines to take shelter under the shield, 3rd Veteran Squad still attempting to reach critical objective.

Turn 3 Summary:
Spoiler:
LG taking heavy casualties (2nd Heavy Weapons Squad Lost, Tarantula Sentry Guns down and Infantry Squad Lost)
RF takes some fire in the city/ catacombs (4 Vanguard vets lost, Sentinel hurt, 3 Tac marines lost)

State of the board -
RF Knight climbing over Land Raider to make his way deeper into city. Stormblade sitting still in deployment zone with LOS to LG shield/firebase.
LG deathstrike sent forward to block LOS and delay, Veterans have made it to Critical objective, infantry have one normal objective, heavy weapons squad has the other.

Misc -
Deathstrike Rammed the Imperial Knight and did no damage but did not die in the process.

Turn 4 Summary:
Spoiler:

RF loses marines (Last Vanguard Vet dies in the catacombs, combat squad that returned to cap back-field objectives blasted by Basilisk)
LG being hammered (Shield Down, Sabre Defence Batteries destroyed, Deathstrike destroyed, Platoon Command Squad Lost)

State of the board -
RF Knight stomped over Deathstrike and is finally in the LG deployment zone. Stormblade and Executioner still holding back and bombarding from range. RF Chapter Master leaves catacombs and is next to the critical objective.
LG Basilisk retreats behind cover, CCS hides in a building and all the other survivors have gone to ground.

Turn 5 Summary:
Spoiler:
RF loses nothing
LG barely hanging on (Shield Destroyed, CCS hurt, last veteran squad hurt)

State of the board -
RF Knight approaching Basilisk/ CCS hiding spot, Stormblade and Executioner still bombarding, Sentinel moving up to support Knight, Chapter Master moved onto Critical Objective.
LG Can do nothing but hold on, 2 objectives held and critical objective contested.

Misc. RF Chapter Master and LG's last veteran squad are in CQC in the power station. Sergeant challenged Chapter Master to a duel and died instantly.

Game Ends.

LG have technical victory (2VP from objectives versus 0VP for RF)
Whilst the Lone Gryphonnes suffered disproportionately high casualties in this opening battle, they successfully secured an ammunition cache and a supply stash before extracting. The Ryzan Forces whilst having not completed their objectives, have forced the LG from the field and deeper into the city.

Casualties (based on pts cost)
RF - 37%
LG - 65%

-----------------------------------------------

IC AAR

Concentrated enemy armour prevented any breakout attempt and saturation bombardment from their heavy support elements made our position untenable. We sustained heavy casualties during extraction but managed to secure valuable objectives.

OOC AAR

I should not have won that battle; my army was basically obliterated and didn't deal much damage in return. His army washed over my position quite easily.
If the game had gone on for another turn I would have definitely lost; his Chapter Master would have cleaned up my Veterans and seized the Critical Objective and his Knight would have cleaned off at least one of my rear objectives.

My worst mistake was placing the Land Raider too far forward (he took most of the enemy fire, including two rounds of shooting from a Knight Errant) and so I lost just under a quarter of my points which didn't even achieve anything. After that I was focussed purely on survival and was unable to accomplish much.

----------------------------------------------

Thanks for reading if you've gotten this far!
I haven't uploaded many pictures because our armies aren't complete in terms of painting and/or assembly and our terrain is more imagination than model!

Any constructive criticism or thoughts would be great. We've just finished our second game and I will be writing that up soon (TM).
Thanks again, Otto.
