So I recently have come to Infinity from 40k and I just need some tips on what painting ranges people use. Because of my heavy involvement in 40k, I have tons of Citadel paint and I am familiar with the range but I am wanting to stay to the look and the style of the Haqqislam that can be found on the main website. Now, I don't airbrush, I use a regular brush so I know I won't be able to get as good of a look that Angel does for Corvus Bellie but I want to keep to at least the same color scheme. I don't know much about Vallejo which seems to be commonly used so I don't know exactly what shades and such I should buy and I don't want to waste too much money buying a whole scheme of paints.

A fair number of people use citadel paints on Infinity Miniatures. Somewhere on this site is a chart, ah here, http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Paint_Range_Compatibility_Chart that may help when determining which of your citadel paints to use. Also, trust your eyes You'll be fine with the citadel paints, but perhaps consider trying other brands as you use up the Citadel stuff. Make your wallet happy.

Angel posts painting guides on his blog and his facebook page,
here http://studiogiraldez.blogspot.com/ and here https://www.facebook.com/StudioGiraldez but he generally doesn't go into too much detail about specific colors.

I use a fairly broad set of ranges. I've got Citadel paints and washes, VMC and VGC paints and inks, P3 paints (some of my most used paints for Infinity are P3), Army Painter paints and washes and Secret Weapon washes.

While I'm in the process of phasing out my Citadel paints, it's mainly because they keep changing their formulas which changes the colours themselves. They still make great quality miniature paints, but they need to stop putting them in terrible containers.

Awesome, thanks for the advice, I will probably use my Citadel stuff and phase it out as time goes by. It gives me time to actually find a store selling Vallejo paints.

If you don't have any already, grab some Lahmian Medium. It's great for getting smoother blends while using a brush and can also be used to create washes and glazes, which are great for Infinity models.

Glazing does work well with the Infinity models.

Isn't Lahmian Medium nothing more than a gloss varnish with a matting agent? Like this article says http://www.themightybrush.com/review-lahmian-medium/. Best way to make a glaze is with glazing medium like this http://www.dickblick.com/products/golden-acrylic-glazing-liquid/ and thin it with some distilled water+flow aid/enhancer. You can even add some slow-dry blending medium, http://www.liquitex.com/slowdriblendingmedium/

I've found that actual art supplies are equal or better and cheaper than Citadel.

Or even go through Vallejo. They've got proper glaze medium.

For my haqq I used the following three Vallejo colours for the desert fatigues after recommendation from Winterdyne...

VMA Hemp.
VMA Sand Yellow.
VMA Sand.

For the skin I used VMC English Uniform>Medium Flesh>Flat Flesh. Also on recommendation and I think it works well.

Spoiler:

But really, as others have said, any of the major paint brands will work as well as the next, it's just your own preference as to specific colours and of course, ease of acquisition/convenience, etc.

I will say though that Vallejo's model colour range is massive and has lots of nice, muted, natural colours which suit haqqislam well IMO. And also, I'm a big fan of VMA paints generally. Just love 'em.

Well, which ever colours you choose, don't stay loyal. Much as I loath GW colours, I've found their (new) yellows and bright oranges cover better than Vallejo. Mix and match for effect as your colour bottles aren't going to be on display

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

Paints are a matter of personal choice.
As are brushes.

Even Angel Giraldez still has a few GW colours in his collection. I use mostly vallejo (but they are easier to get than the GW ones - with only one GW store in my town and no fewer than 3 other game stores where I can get vallejo stuff).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I mostly use Vallejo, but I'm getting more and more tempted to go back to Citadel or Coat d'Arms, since I really hate those Vallejo bottles.
